      First off, to Newbie Zone!

      False, I thank you.

Melatonin helps some people, but if you notice any negative effects, stop taking it. On top of that, did you start a dream journal?

If you question whether or not you are dreaming, do a reality check!
      Bollocks.

Anything that you can. Scenes from dreams, what happened, and what you felt.

Just a notebook by your bed will do more for your dreams than melatonin.

How exactly will having the journal help with lucid dreaming?

After a while, you'll get in the habit of remembering more of your dreams, and more of what it feels like...

This increases your chances of realizing you are dreaming.

Also, I am somewhat having trouble remembering my dreams lately. I used to recall at least 2-3 a night. How can I help remembering?

      Well, dream journal of course.

Mnemonic phrases can help when you are in a pinch.

Repeat and focus on the the words, "I will awake from my dreams and remember them completely" while you are falling asleep.

Waking up after each dream will help dream recall, even if you don't remember wakng up. Also, setting an alarm or training your body to get about 3-4 hours after falling asleep can help.

Hi I'm new here too, but I have done a fair amount of research.
Dream Journals are used to keep track of your dreams, which will eventually increase the chance of occurring a lucid dream.
When you keep track of your dreams, you can scan over them and look for patterns, or 'dreamsigns', and it is these dreamsigns that can help you determine whether you are dreaming or not. If you see the same thing occurring, or a pattern emerging in your dreams, the next time you see it you can use to help trigger a lucid dream.
"Hey I recognize that, I must be dreaming!"

      Also new

Hey, I've just registered here as well. I've been looking and reading on this site for a couple of days though. Started a dream journal, the day I saw this (had a dream journal a couple of months ago, but didn't really push through, also just recreational use). Had 9 dream recalls already in 5 days, or 4 actually, because in one I was drunk, and didn't have any recall. Last night I went to bed going over the sentence: I want to remember doing reality checks in my dream and become lucid. (I've been trying to remember myself to do reality checks during the day for a couple days as well) and this morning it sort of worked I was dreaming and I jumped (very high), and somehow I remembered that low gravity might happen in dreams, so I said to myself, let's do a RC. But then I woke up. Could it be that it happened because I was on the verge of awakening or is it real progression?

This is a real progression, congratulations. You did an RC, but I think you got too excited because you were probably dreaming and you woke up. That can happen. It happens a lot. Just practice, and you'll be fine
