      This would be a very good technique, however there is a flaw..

      For most people, if you are still able to consciously think while falling asleep, you're probably not RIGHT about to fall asleep.

      In the event that you do manage to think about something just as you're falling asleep, it's not likely you'll remember it even 10 seconds later, even if you stay awake for that much longer.

      You're not wasting your time at all though. If it works for you, stick with it. I just don't think it would work for me.

      I'm going to have to disagree with you there. The WILD technique involves carrying consciousness through sleep straight into the dream from waking reality. Therefore you can think consciously right before falling asleep (and during, and after you fall asleep), with training. This is the way I find most effective for myself.
