I often have dreams with the experience of me in a very dirty toilet and the toilets are broken with dirty water all over the floor. Sometimes there are no toilets in the toilet just a hole in the ground which I use anyway. Also, when I use the sink or tub, a black oil like substance comes out instead of clean water. Somehow I can't seem to catch this dream as what we call a "dream sign" Any help would be appreciated.

To see a toilet in your dream most probably symbolizes a release of emotions that you want to get rid of. In this case (because you see so much dirty water everywhere in the toilet), the emotions you want to get rid of are negative, undesirable and repulsive. So try to discover and exterminate these feelings! I am sorry that I could not provide detailed interpretation, but to do this I should have information for your personal life. Hi and welcome! I have a question regarding dream interpretation. How "exact" is it. I mean, dreams definitely reflect my emotions, beliefs, thoughts and events from my waking life. I'm pretty sure that most of the time, after I reflect on a dream, I get a vague feeling on what exactly it expressed. Especially if there is something strongly bothering me at that time and it shows up in the dreams theme and my reactions. What bothers me about it is that the whole thing seems kind of standardized, for example the websites you posted. For me dreams are anything but stable. Jumping from place to place, revealing different feelings, people, events, reactions... so much that it doesn't feel right that it can be so simple (or as simple) as it seems. Can we expect all our dreams to be symbols and metaphors? And if we do, how different are they if we compare, lets say a farmer and a poet? I don't feel that it's my place to criticize dream interpretation, since I'm not the one who actually knows much about it. But, in the end all I can gain is a bit of new information. Thanks!

Dear Bonsay! I will consequently try to respond to the main questions posed in your reply. The following text will be in format quote/answer. What bothers me about it is that the whole thing seems kind of standardized, for example the websites you posted. For me dreams are anything but stable. The websites like the one I have posted a link to, could give only general ideas about what the dream of a particular person means. They never pretend to have "the final word" in dreams interpretation (this is explicitly mentioned in their disclaimers, at least in the disclaimer of the site that I have cited). In order to be given a detailed and a correct interpretation (as far as the possible), an information about the concrete person have to be known. Can we expect all our dreams to be symbols and metaphors? It is believed that a literal interpretation should be considered first. Only when such an interpretation is implausible, a symbolic approach to the dream analysis should be used. And if we do, how different are they if we compare, lets say a farmer and a poet? It should be acknowledged that all people are similar to a certain extent - e. g. in their feelings, needs, etc. (both "a farmer and a poet", for example). It seems that this is the reason for existence of such sites - they simply make use of some common characteristics of the people. There are numerous articles in renowned magazines and journals which treat different aspects of dreams and dreams interpretation. It might be suggested that the last three posts on the blog http://www.fatedreams.com/blog/ (these posted on November, the 2nd) are a good start in discovering the subject of dreams and dreams interpretation. I do hope that at least something in this reply will be helpful to you or another Forum member. Please feel free to ask more questions. Thanks for those answers. I have a different question. From time to time threads which ask the question "Why do we dream?", or something to that extent, appear on the forums. And nobody really has an answer. At least I haven't seen any factual answers, just opinions. Maybe you could shed some light on what the official explanation is from the scientific community. I'm aware that new neural connections are formed during sleep, generating new long term memory and revising the information learned during the day. If this is correct, or partially correct, are dreams some sort of a side effect resulting from all the different connections made and broken during sleep? Sorry if this is answered in the links that were posted, I haven't had the time to check them out yet. It's just that I haven't really seen an actual "theory of dreaming" on which the majority would agree upon. So have things changed? Just asking if you have any new info regarding the subject or something I haven't heard before. Again, thanks for your time!

Hi John, I have a question for you. In my dreams lately, I've had the same thing recurring often: I'll be doing whatever is happening in the dream, then all of a sudden I'll see a fighter jet fly over and drop a nuclear weapon. The nukes never land near me in my dreams, but in the distance. The things you would expect to happen don't happen either (there isnt usually a large amount of destruction, no sound, and no flash). Its almost unnerving. Another recurring element is people that I know all of a sudden becoming psycotic, and becoming savage like an animal. I know this sounds crazy, but I'd be interested to know what this indicates. Thanks.

Dear detroitLions1970! The dreams about nuclear bomb that does not affect you, but affects other people (even in such a strange manner), may suggest that an unexpected changes/difficulties could happen to some of the people you know, which may cause them to get very "savage"/furious. The conclusion is that you should not be upset because of this dream. Unpleasant things happen frequently in our lives and we must be prepared for them. Such dreams prepare us to meet these difficulties. Best wishes, John
