      TOTALLY new

      Hello all dreamers.

So, i read a little about Lucid Dreaming and I cant stop thinking about how wonderful this must be. I have never had a Lucid dream before, so i was wondering if you could maybe help me a bit.

      First:
      * How do I "activate" a lucid dream`?
      * Is there a special way to fall asleep needed?

Please reply quick, im eager to start!

      Thiada

Hi and welcome to Dream Views.

Here's a link to Seeker's Quick Start Lucid Dream Tutorial in the Tutorials sector of the site.

      >> Quick Start <<

I think that should answer your two questions.

Do you dream journal? That's also a great starting point.

I have a dreamjournal right beside me at the moment, but still empty.

But my question is, is there a good and effective way to fall asleep?
And if there are, could you please describe it?

      Thanks
      Thiada

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

I don't completely understand your question about falling asleep. Are you referring to techniques to induce lucid dreams? If so, you can find them in this forum.

I find that repeating something to myself, preferably lucid dreaming related, helps me to fall asleep faster. "I will recognize the dream state" would be a good phrase to repeat. You can also visualize a dream where you're lucid.

I usually don't have any problems falling asleep, because I get up early during the weekdays and am dead tired by the end of the day. And on the weekends, I stay up until 2-3AM and then I'm also dead tired.

      Hello and welcome.

I found when i first tried, i was trying too hard. It wasn't untill i had gave up trying that i had my first Lucid.

My advice is relax, don't try too hard and don't get too dishearted if they dont come in the first few weeks.

      Good luck

      Hi,

Make sure you know how to do a Reality Check. Since you haven't done a RC in a dream before, It would be best to learn them all. Here is a huge list. Actually I haven't heard of some of them before. The common ones used are probably the "check text/clock" or "look at hands/body"...I prefer the "pinch nose and try to breathe" RC .

You could try a simple, basic technique which involves chanting yourself to sleep, thinking "I will do a RC and have a LD" or similar stuff like that. If the thought pops up again when the dream starts, you might get a LD.

      Good luck!

Some people rely on doing RCs as much as they can douring the day, making them become a habit, so they would also start doing them in dreams. Others use their dream signs and only do RCs, or think about doing a RC, when they see it. The quick start guide and the link I posted should explain how most people do it. I just do a them when something really confuses me, most of the time I only do them in dreams.

Even if you manage to get a LD without reality checks, they can help you stay lucid, if you start to lose lucidity, or increase clarity inside your dream.

Reality checking is the only link between reality and the dream world you have (if we rule out the natural LDers and some anomalies). Without them I wouldn't have as many LDs as I have now. Just choose a RC you think will work and you'll see if it works sooner or later. In the link, the ones on the top and those that involve your body are most commonly used from my experience.

Seems like a really good idea!

So, from now on, i shall bite my arm and hold my nose as often as i can!
So, when I do it in sleep, i might get Lucid

      Thanks alot man!

Well biting your arm doesn't seem very healthy, but the nose pinch is ok
