      A little Phobia

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me here, last night I had the worst dream that I can recall. I have a very-very embarrassing fear of spiders. not the big ones from 8-legged freaks, just the little ones that have the little pea bodies and the spindly awful legs. That's what's really bad, oops, I went of on a tangent there, anyway in my dream there was a single little jaddy long legs thing. in the corner of the room, I watched it intently and my dream self got very VERY FREAKING AGITATED. before I knew the place was teeming with them, I was outside. they was walking on the floor and well to be frank, I almost woke screaming. Have had the very bad fear of spiders when one day I woke in an english class to have a large spider (think about the size of your fingernail!!) sitting in front of my nose. pretty sure thats the cause but knowing that has not helpdanything, dreams usually reflect what happens during the day, which one of my friends had thrown a tiny spider at my. Can anyone relate a time where they face a phobia in an LD, I would be much appreciative indeed. Anyway after the disaster I woke at 3:16am and didnt go to sleep. Awful stuff but I hope anyone can relate any way to help, oops, forgot to mention I was instantly lucid as I saw that spider and tried frantically to *destroy* it with a shouted brisinger(from the Inheritance Trilogy's ancient language) to no avail. I would edit this post to further clarify what I mean however if I move my cursor up and type it just displaces the letter for it. I would also rearrange it but then it might look like I am speaking a different langage with the attempt. ~ Smee

      Hello Smee,
sounds more like a nightmare than a dream and the fact that you went lucid brings up the possibility of controlling the situation and turning the nightmare into a pleasant dream where all the little spiders eat each other, blow up or just disappear. It is difficult but when you become lucid in such a situation, remind yourself that you are dreaming and you realise you are dreaming so the spiders cannot hurt or effect your real body, only your dream body and that does not hurt you. Get the adrenaline rush from the fear of the dream as that is part of the experience and enjoy the fear knowing that you cannot be hurt in reality, then you may be able to control the dream and come to a pleasant outcome.
Easier said than done and I am no expert.....

      Happy dreaming.

Smee, I begin every WILD attempt by mentally repeating the following protection mantra:

"My mind, my body, my soul and my spirit are protected by pure white light. May only those of pure white light come near me, may only those of pure white light touch me."

This mantra comforts me and I've also used it to ward off "evil" things that have approached me while lucid.
