I am about ready to give up!

i learned about lucid dreaming about a year and a half ago. i thought it was the coolest thing ever so i wanted to see if i could do it.

i bought 3 books on the subject and have been reading alot of stuff on this website.

however i have only had two partial lucid dreams. i say partial because i knew i was dreaming but i didnt have control over them.

is there some secret to lucid dreaming i missed?

am i not able to have lucid dreams?

like i said ive been trying for over a year now. ive tried the MILD, WILD, DILD ect. ect. i even have kept a dream journal!

i know you guys get this alot but i would realy like some help.

If none of those methods have worked for you I suggest you try alternative ones like taking vitamin b6 or melatonin. I don't know if it will work for you, but I have a theory(it has worked greatly for me on two occasions) that falling asleep outside of the covers makes you wake up 4-5 hours after with great awareness. The perfect chance to try a WILD or MILD. Both times I tried it I got incredibly vivid and lucid dreams...

Just some suggestions, and by all means don't give up!
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Hello Pinkployd!! Sorry to hear you are so frustrated.
Trying too hard seems to be a frequent problem when beginning. (worrring about it too much)

This is not written in stone but generally speaking you have to be a person who can recall at least a couple of dreams per night. This is somthing that can be improved opon.
How many do you generally recall on an average night?

      Good Luck

Yes, you'll definately need good dream recall if you want to LD. Are you using WBTB when you do MILD or WILD? If not, you should definately do so since it greatly increases you chances of having an LD. Also, if you haven't tried it all ready, you should start doing reality tests on a regular basis every day. This should make you do them in your dreams as well.

If you have good visualisation skills, you might also want to try VILD. Basically, you induce a dream of your choice, which in turn will make you lucid.

And if nothing else works, try taking a break for a week or two. Often, the LDs will come when you do not try to induce them (I suspect this is because you let your mind relax during this period. Stress, fear and the like tend to make LDing a lot harder)

      Good luck!

      Welcome FinkPloyd!

Don't give up! Just try to relax and let nature take it's course. I've found that lucid dreaming is kind of like a scared kitten. If you pursue it, it will run from you, but if you turn your back, it will soon come to you.

On Shine Crazy You Diamond! and Good luck!

That's it in a nutshell. If you've done all the reading and kept journals and stuff, then you're more than prepared. Now you just need to take the pressure off yourself. I'm not a particularly talented LDer, bit when I'm not pressuring myself, I definitely have better luck with LDs.

So Good Luck, and WELCOME TO DV FINKPLOYD!!!!!!!!!
