Yes there is a con and that is that it messes up ur dreaming process, can give u trouble falling asleep, produce annoying grumbles in ur stomach, and decrease ur chances of lucid dreaming.
So i would stay away from large meals before bed time if i were u.
pro- eating makes you feel good
con- you'll get fat
and what ldmaster said
Yes i forgot to mention there is a pro, food rocks!
Actually after I eat a large meal I get pretty tired and feel very content with going to sleep. Also I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to get tired because the work your digestive system is doing on digesting the food.
going to sleep right after eating causes your metabolism to slow down and thus gain more weight than if you were awake, the body doesn't process the food the same rate.
Sure it's bad to eat before bed physically, but wouldn't the deeper sleep lead to more REM, and thus more chances at lucidity? Of course, wrecking one's body like that is not advised, but meh...
I have heard that eating activates certain parts of your body and brain. In doing so, your brain gets the message that it is not time to sleep and thus it has a negative effect on your sleep.
When I don't eat within a couple hours before going to sleep, I have a higher chance of both more vivid dreams and lucid dreams. Plus, there's the bonus of not gaining the extra weight eating before bed lol.
The reason I ask is, it's not something I do often, but I did last night and wondered if it would have any effect on LDing, for better or worse.
Question:
If I don't eat before I go to bed, I get very hungry, and since I rarely fall asleep at once, it would be quite annoying to lie there hungry. I don't eat large meals, just a couple of sandwitches. Doesn't hunger decrease the chances to get lucid dreams? Or is it only an annoying thing to avoid when you're WILDing? Because if it's a good thing for lucid dreams to fall asleep hungry, then I'm gonna change my foodhabits right now.. Someone has an answer to that?
It does seem like after you eat a large meal that you get very sleepy. But in contrast, the digestion process keeps you awake. And, if you eat and go straight to bed, your going to gain some weight.
Eating a large meal full of B6, something cheesy, could result it more vivid dreams in the same way taking a B6 supplement could I suppose, but it's really not good for you eating a big meal before bed. A meal is fine, your body needs energy, but more than it can get rid of during sleep.
A small snack before bed can induce sleep. Stay away from the protein foods which interfere with sleep and can keep u awake and stick to the carbohydrate foods such as cakes, ice-cream, cereals, candy, figs, chocolate, potatoes, spaghetti, honey, jam. Also foods that induce sleep are foods rich in tryptophan which include nuts, beans, cheese, rice, fish, eggs, meat and milk.
I don't think it hurts just to eat a small snack, say a banana sandwich or something similar. Stay away from chocolate and caffeine, and don't eat anything too fatty. Oh and don't eat too much. Just enough to stop you from feeling hungry
