You don't have to try a Wake-back-to-bed method (where you stay up for 30-90 minutes) as a beginner. But it's good to wake up frequently at night for purposes of dream recall. Luckily, waking up to write down your dream only takes a couple minutes, and can be done within the confinements of your own room. But really, remembering at least a couple dreams per night is prefered. So yes, try to get up during the night, but you don't have to stay awake that long. Just long enough for you to reach over and turn on a light, grab your dream journal, and write your most recent dream... It's a rhythm which you'll get used to as time passes. |
