im new to lucid dreams. Im hoping this question is acceptable to ask. About reality checks, would someone mind going into detail for me? So I simply say .Am I dreaming?. inside my mind can I say this out loud? In saying this out loud I try to truly mean it, are there tips for this?
..Thanks..

Reality checks are a way to check if you are in reality or in a dream, of course.
Since, when in a dream, you have, almost, no limits. Obviously this would vary from the real world.
So a way to check if you are dreaming or not, would be to hold your nose and try to breath. If you can, than you are indeed dreaming (because like I stated before, possibilities are nearly endless).
Another method of a reality check, or RC as it will most always be referred to here, is to look at an analog clock. The digits will usually be messed up, OR the time will change on second glance.
A third method of RCing is to flip a light switch on. If you try to turn it off and it won't, or vice versa, you are usually dreaming.
One method some members prefer would be the finger through hand technique. Just try to put your finger through your hand, and if it goes, you are dreaming. *I've never tried it, I'm not sure how it would go over...
Usually looking at your hands can be a sign. Apparently, in dreams, your hands will often be deformed or a different color, or simply not yours. That is another method, but probably not as reliable because your hands CAN be normal during a LD.
You should probably give this article a read: http://www.dreamviews.com/induction.php
That will give you a more in-depth description.
In conclusion, I always do the hold your nose RC, because I can easily disguise it as a nose scratch :)

I understand now. My mind was thinking I just say .Am i dreaming. out loud without doing something physical such as holding my nose. It's crystal clear now, thank you much

Well most reality checks come with the pre-thought of "Am I dreaming", which is why it's usually accompanied with a physical reality check to answer the "Am I dreaming" question.

tutorials sectionFirstly hi and welcome to the forum :D
Reality Checks are basically when you question if you are dreaming. You do this a few times a day so that when you are in a dream, your dream self will go "Am I dreaming?" then perform a reality check and hopefully you will then go lucid.
There are many ways to do reality checks, from just asking your self if you are dreaming or turning a light on/off to see if it works properly.
Theres a section on reality checks in the tutorials section.
I prefer 11. The Breathing Test because if usually always works in a dream.
Hope this helps :)

This is just my take, but, my opinion is that the ACTUAL RC you do shouldn't matter too much.
The key is to get you to look around and GENUINELY wonder whether or not your dreaming, and to be more aware and contemplative of your environment. RCs are just a way to help that.
