Thread: 1st and 3rd Person Dreaming

Hey all,

To be quite honest, I am very confused by my dreams sometimes. The character stance continuously changes from the first person to the third person and back.

For more clarification, sometimes I view my dreams out of my own eyes, and other times I am viewing myself as a character in my dream (almost like a movie shot). Most times, this change occurs within the same dream, making my dreams a wild chaos of what is actually going on. Does this happen to anyone else?

I am concerned that the change in perspective gives me such an overload of information to interpret that it could lead to problems becoming lucid. Any ideas or calming suggestions?

That's perfectly normal and happens to me all the time. My dreams are constantly shifting locations and points of view and who the "main character" is. Sometimes it can be, also, like I'm looking through my own eyes and coming to my own conclusions, but I'm not actually a part of what's going on.

Anyway, I've had LDs in both POV, though I've found that I always go into 1st person when I become lucid, at least initially. So that in itself shouldn't give you any trouble. It's still about what's in the dream and not so much about how you view it.

Dreaming in 3rd person is quite common for me and changing 1st and 3rd person is common, too.
In one dream I was viewing myselft - I wasn't human, but a treaded carpet!
