Tips for inducing dreams.

I've had little problems trying to induce dreams. Whenever I try, they're about the main characters but the plot is often completely lost. Normally what I'll do is meditate on the simple idea of a dream I'd like to have. I'll tell myself outloud that I will have the dream and that I'll remember it. Does anyone have anymore tips?
Elaborate plz. <3
thx. ~Syn~ ;>

Well, from my own experience, telling myself that I want to have a certain dream never works. I think part of your problem may be when you are telling yourself that. If you tell yourself that before you go to sleep at the beginning of the night, by the time you are actually dreaming it is hours later. I assume that may be the problem.

However, I am still kinda new to this and also have been having some problems just even remembering dreams lately (and normally I'm pretty good at it). I'm wondering if there are certain foods you can eat/musics to listen to/positions to sleep in that are more likely to produce vivid dreams.

How could you cry for me?
Cause I don't feel bad about it.
So shut your eyes,
Kiss me goodbye,
And sleep.
Just sleep.

I don't try to induce certain dreams as such. When it comes to recall, i simply tell myself that anything i see or hear after closing my eyes will be a dream. I'm trying to use it to attain lucidity, but it's not working, although it's providing some pretty crazy dreams.

@Irishcream:
So you're saying I need to perfect lucidity before trying to induce dreams?
I'm not very good at attaining lucidity yet. Still working on it...
I'm so surprised!
I was given an assignment to induce a dream during the night and I've been told before that if I tell myself to have a dream I can have it. Maybe these people told me to induce *any* dream not a certain dream. Sorry for all the crossed wires!
Plz drop me a line here if you've got any more thoughts.
