Hmmm.... well, I always get a notification, via both a message at the top of the main forum screen and a pop-up window, when I have a new PM. Not sure why you wouldn't. Maybe you have pop-ups blocked?

Also there's an option for notification via email that you can turn on (or off) in your profile. It's called \"Notify on new Private Message\".

No, popup blocked doesn't block javascript boxes on other phpbb forums, but oh well. I'll live.
