Obviously one would have to be a newbie to have a topic title as such. I'd like to start out by introducing myself as a young teenage girl who is fascinated by lucid dreaming. I stumbled onto this site and was immediately intrigued. The first thought that popped up was: How can I do this? So I explored the homepage and it's links then went onto the message board. At first, I didn't register. So I skimmed through posts and headed towards the tutorials. I've tried to get lucid dreams from them, but I still have troubles.
I've never really had a lucid dream that I can remember, but most of my dreams were somewhat lucid. I've read pretty much all of the tutorials and wondering which technique would be best for me. My thoughts are always jumbled up and even when I try to relax and let them flow I find myself thinking about the thoughts. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help myself on this.
Well, if you have an idea that you were lucid in a dream, you probably were, but did nothing about it. This is known as lowlevel lucidity.
What's your dream recall like? Do you have a good stock of dreamsigns with which to perform reality checks?
Have you read Stephen Laberge's book Exploring the world of Lucid dreaming? that's got some good suggestions in it. (when i can remember to follow them...i can be a bit lazy about that kind of thing... )
When lying in bed thinking, and you find yourself distracted, just keep bringing your mind back to your intention. Be focussed on what you wish to acheive, but if you don't get it, don't worry. there's always another night.
Also, something i find that works, and helps me to concentrate, is a counting method. You shut your eyes, listen to your breathing.
and you count like this: 'one, i'm dreaming. Two, i'm dreaming' and so on, just in your head. At first, you might only get to twenty and drop off to sleep, but the theory is if you practise this enough, you'll eventually say 'i'm dreaming' and be in the dream, and totally lucid.
I find it helps me to concentrate better on my hypnagogic imagery and realise that it's a product of my mind. I haven't acheived lucidity this way yet, but my images when i rememebr them do seem to be more vivid.
Hmm...you could also try the wake back to bed method, combined with MILD. That works for some people.
I find Wake back to bed improves my recall when it's slumping, if i can afford to wake myself in the night for a few minutes.
Hope this helps, PM me if you have any more questions
