Because of knowing you are dreaming you will have different thoughts and make different decisions than you would if you did not know. Lucid simply means that you are aware that you are dreaming while in a dream. So you need to take it one step at a time, focus on recall, and getting lucid in the first place. Once you have at least some small handle inducing lucidity, then focus on obtaining more control if that is your intent.
What you describe about delayed recall is not uncommon it's a normal thing. You just need to keep practicing, recall always fluctuates for most people. Keep a note pad next to you when you sleep, any time you wake with any recall jot down a few key words to make sure you remember when you wake up later. Doing that also helps to wake up your mind a little to help with more recall. Write down the dreams that you remember. The effort in writing down your dreams shows your mind that your dreams are important enough to you to remember... So I would write something down even if you don't remember anything, write down that you don't remember anything. Or if you just have a feeling, write down the feeling of the dream. Or if you just suspect you were dreaming about a certain thing, write that down even if you can't quite remember it. With enough effort putting into the journaling, recall gradually gets better. You start to remember more of them, you start to remember them more clearly and vividly.
For me personally, I can sometimes tell when a lucid is imminent, but the intense vivid quality of the recall I've begun getting.
I hope that helps some.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot! So I should try to focus on awareness first, and then move to the control part, right? And I have already a small note pad ready and some pencils as well!

Caradon's advice about keeping a dream journal is really an excellent place to start. I'm still pretty new at this and when I feel myself losing a little ground in my LD training it is often due to getting a little lazy with my journaling. There is something that happens in our brains when we write things down.......recall really increases. And dream recall is crucial to dream lucidity.
When I first started I was like you.....I had no idea where to put my energy at first. I started reading everything I could find on lucid dreaming. I watched every video on the internet. Thankfully, that journey led me here to Dream Views.
Immerse yourself in everything lucid and set your intention to have lucid dreams and it WILL happen. Where you go with it will then be up to you.

I will definitely immerse myself in everything lucid, or at least try. And as both you and Caradon have said, recalling is a very important part, right? I need to put effort on that.

A good one to start with would be Stephen Laberge's Exploring the World of Dreaming or Robert Wagoner's Lucid Dreaming: Plain and Simple. There is also a lot of good information you could find on here in the forums in the tutorials section and other subforums.
Best of luck to you and your dreaming journey
Hey! Thanks for the recommendations! I will check out those titles. I will too read the informations from the tutorials section, and I might print them somewhere.
