      I cant stop the dreams

Im scare im going to die. I dream many dreams every night. I remember each in detail, i can control everthing in my dreams i even know im dreaming but i can't stop the dreams. I want one night of rest. Just darkness, quiet, deep sleep. I wake up exhausted everyday my heart races from th exhaustion. I could be 10 hrs in bed sleeping and still have to push my self out. I also have dreams which i had as a little girl. Some times this may sound crazy but i feel like something that happened to me today i dreamt it already. And as its happening i an reciting to myself what is going to happen next. Sometimes i get it wrong but most of the time i freak myself out. Im scared that i am going to die of not ever actually getting a full nights sleep. My dreams are so intense i don't know how to stop them only control what happens in them! I hate to go to sleep at night.

If you really need a silent night's sleep, there's some chemicals that inhibit REM, effectively reducing or even elliminating most all of your dreams at night. Alcohol is a common one, but I can't exactly recommend that you should go get boozed. I don't know about too many others, and some are perscription, so they're out of the question. If you ask around though, I'm sure somebody knows of something that could help.

Mostly, I'd just recommend that you relax. Listen to peaceful music, don't let things get to you. Stressing about the problem won't fix it, but relaxing very well might help you. Just let the storm blow over--nothing in life's worth worrying that much over.

      And welcome to the forum!

There are some people that actually have longer REM periods, but that shouldn't effect your sleep much. I should know about this!

Hi I have bizare dreaming on a regular basis that are lucid dreams that I can control very well. I have them because I suffer from sleep apnea. Maybe you should go to a sleep clinic to see if you suffer from the same thing. Your post sounded like me before I knew I had the sleep apnea. My apnea now isn't so bad so I do get a lot less dreams and rest. :-)

One problem sleep apnea gives you are headaches because you keep more C02 in your body with the pauses of breathing. When it got severe the sleep apnea I began drawing my dreams to try to cope with all the dreams and was hoping drawing would take the dreams away which was driving to the point of doubting myself because of lack of sleep. I didn't know at the time why I was always so tired.

I knew I was waking up panics. Heart racing. When It got worse I was gasping for air. I didn't know the whole scope of what I was going through until a doctor commented on my sketchbook told me I was talented and asked where to you get all the ideas from. I said from my dreams. I fact I have outlines of books of stories I have cataloged based on my dreams and tons of sketchbooks with images of dream. In fact the one picture listed in this discussion by my name is a picture during this time of a place I saw frequently in my dreams.

Do you snore? Do you wake up with headaches? Do always feel like your inbetween being asleep and awake when you sleep at night? Do you wake up with your heart racing? If yes you look like you can have sleep apnea.

The procedure to determine sleep apnea is simple. You spend a night a clinic or hospital all strapped up to cables. They monitor you while you sleep. Once diagnosed they pinpoint what is causing the sleep apnea. Mine is my throat and nose are to narrow combined with years of allergies my muscles collapse when asleep. I am sapposed to sleep with a machine that detects when I stop breathing. I haven't gotten the machine yet. Losing weight has helped me in addition to cutting out all things I am allergics to or foods that give me reactions such as swelling or creating phelgm.

Don't let the dreams get the best of you hang in there and fight it out. I did for awhile thought I was going to lose it . It was my art that helped me and talking about it to my family to help me analyze the dreams. My sleep depravation was so bad that once I drove off the side of the road wondering what was scrapping the side of my car. It was the metal railing that was placed on the edge of canal to prevent drivers from falling into the canal incase of an accident. It took awhile to gain concrete thinking and I drove home very slowly and went to bed.

Take care and hope you find some rest.

      Dreamlyn :-)
