Hi all I began my lucid dream adventure on vacation while in Amsterdam early this summer, in May. I went into some occult bookstore near my hotel and began looking through the various sections of the store. There were books on all different kinds of religions, geometry, and, of course, dreaming! The book I ended up purchasing was Lucid Dreaming by Robert Waggoner. I had been interested in the idea of lucid dreaming and OBEs, but had never experienced either. I hardly ever even remembered one dream a night!
I began keeping a dream journal that day. I read that people were attaining lucidity in a matter of weeks, and this made me very excited. After 2-3 weeks I had significantly improved my dream recall and felt that it had to be about time! I was performing reality checks daily, but still saw no results. I began (almost) daily meditation about two weeks ago. I knew it was only a matter of time.
It has been a little over two months since I began, and last night I finally had my first lucid dream! Hooray!!!
I have been saying a mantra out loud and in my head to look at my hands in my dreams as I go about daily tasks, such as cooking or taking a shower. Yesterday I had the determination/obsession to put all of my focus into it. I recently purchased a galantamine/choline supplement from Dreamamins as I was getting frustrated. I really did want to achieve my first lucid dream "naturally" however I thought that if I could just get that first lick of lucidity, it would make getting there naturally that much easier. I experimented with the 4 mg pills and found that whenever I would wake up in the middle of the night to take it, there was no way I could fall back asleep. I literally laid in my bed squirming for hours....horrible.
Anyways, last night I decided to take it before going to bed, even though from my research I read that it is better to take it during later REM sleep stages. I figured I had nothing to lose. I also decided it might help me get to sleep if I drank a couple beers before bed. I know that alcohol inhibits REM sleep, or something like that, but I still wanted to try it.
And you know what? It worked! hahaha
TL;DR
Here's my experience:
I don't remember anything leading up to this, but I was looking at my hands and counted and recounted my fingers. On the second count I noticed I had six fingers on one of my hands! I got really excited and decided I wanted to try flying. I was pretty wobbly and slow, but I was flying above some trees. I was really only barely lucid, from what it felt like. I noticed the trees were starting to get fuzzy/grainy and remembered that you can prolong a dream by rubbing your hands together. I did this and the trees burst back to life with color and clarity. This lasted for about 30 seconds I'd say and then the entire scene of trees and dark sky began to get farther away, as if I was watching a movie in a theatre and it was getting smaller and smaller. It faded away completely and then a great big eye came into view, and comprised my entire visual field. That was the end. incredible experience!
Wow that got really long. I am so excited to see where lucid dreaming will take me and what I will learn. Cheers!
