Welcome cat14
But then a few weeks later my psychology professor at the time mentioned lucid dreaming in class and I started to do research.
Now that's a proper psychology professor I think in my country there's close to ZERO research regarding lucid dreaming, and as you'll see, we're not that many with the portuguese flag around DV...we're increasing in number though ^^
Sadly, yes, there's many people who don't get what lucid dreaming truly means...but you're in the right place
By what you describe, it appears that what you experience is not sleep paralysis, but simply hypnagogic hallucinations, which are extremely common events one may experience before falling asleep. And yes that is a WILD, because it basically refers to falling asleep consciously. As for WBTB, that's more the act of getting up at the middle of the night to reinforce the intention on lucid dreams: you can use it with many techniques.
For stabilizing the dream, try to give a read to this tutorial, has some great information about the subject. Be sure to keep sharing your experiences, and question away should you have more doubts
