From Belgium!
Hi everybody,
I discovered this site a few days ago when I was browsing the web for some info about LD, so today I decided to make an account and introduce myself.
So as the title already suggests, I'm from Belgium and I'm a 19 year old biotechnology student.
When I was younger, I had a lot of intense dreams and it wasn't unusual (and still isn't) that I wake up in shock during the night. My first LD experience I recall was around the age of 7. I constantly was having the same nightmare of dinosaurs who attacked me, but after a few dreams I realised it wasn't real and I suddenly stopped running away from the dino's saying: this isn't real, I can't die in my dreams.
I've always had the habit of recalling my dreams after I woke up, not on paper but just reconstructing the dream in my mind. This way, I can still recall dreams from years ago and still feel them vividly when I close my eyes.
3 days ago I started my dreamjournal and I've been writing down 1-2 big dreams/night and also 1-2 'small' ones which I don't clearly remember (the small ones are +- 2 hours before waking up and I clearly do have some more control about them though it are just flashes of fragments.) I already noticed that my ex-girlfriend seems to appear in almost every dream in some way, has to be the most annoying dreamsign ever!
Last night I tried to do WILD(when I woke up at 3.30 but I fell asleep), when I went to bed at around 23.00, my eyes suddenly started shocking very fast (had this a few times before) and I felt like I was spinning around and saw flashes of light while my body started tintling and my heart pumping. I've had this a couple of times already but I never seem to have that 'break through' to start dreaming or I think that I'm dreaming but when I pinch myself it still hurts. Could somebody give me some advice on this? I seem to lay awake easily 1-1.5 hours without moving anything but still staying awake.
I did have this strange experience that I woke up after a dream, wrote in my journal about the dream and went back to sleep. Later in the morning, when I woke up, there was nothing written in my notebook. Is this false awakening?
I hope that through this platform, I will be able to make that breakthrough to lucid dreaming.
Have a nice day,
Risdt

Hi Risdt, welcome to Dreamviews!
Yes, that would be False awakening, when you do something at night and in the morning you realize you didn't do it. You can turn those into lucid dreams. Perform a reality check each time you get up from your bed. That way you will hopefully do RC in your next FA too and get lucid.
WILD before bed may be disappointing. The reason is, that at the beginning of the night, we go through about 80 min of NREM, before we reach first REM. We do dream in NREM, and it's possible to have lucid NREM dream, but REM dreams are of much better quality, so we tend to aim for those.
Once, I did have some very intense sensations before sleep. Rotating and moving back and forth. I believe, those are signs of falling asleep. We can be aware of these when we WILD, but if we are not close to REM at that moment, we are probably not gonna get any nice lucid.
That's a nice way to build up your memory - by replaying your dreams when you wake up.

Thank you for welcoming me.
I've been practising my dream recalling and I've only had 1 night so far without any recall (mainly because I was so tired I didn't want to care). I do think that WILD might be the best option for me, when trying MILD (I do reality checks, all day awareness, mantra) it doesn't do anything in my dreams because I'm so convinded the dream is reality + sometimes they are a bit fuzzy, like there is a haze disturbing my awareness. After my dreams I can say: wow, that felt real. But when I'm actually dreaming, I cannot do it. After my exams, I will focus on practising WILD because I seem to be fairly good at keeping my mind awake.
It has been really fun practising though my friends call me crazy when I tell them about it!
