Welcome to DV
This info on 9gag is completely misguided. Experiencing Sleep Paralysis and seeing shadow people is a real phenomenon. However, this is a sleep disorder and not the same thing as the SP you will see most people talking about on this site in relation to WILDing. Isolated Sleep Paralysis (I use the full term to distinguish the disorder from the normal sleep paralysis that occurs in everyone) happens frequently in only about 5% of the population. You may experience this once in your life, but it would likely be only that one occurrence and lucid dreaming is not going to increase your chances of it happening. I have suffered from this disorder in the past, and lucid dreaming actually helped me to cope with it better.
As for nightmares, lucid dreaming is more likely to
help those as well. Once you learn to become lucid, there is the possibility of becoming lucid in a nightmare, facing your fears and turning the dream around.
Lucid dreaming is in no way dangerous and will give you the opportunity to control your dreams. After you've read through some of the tutorials on this site (there is a wealth of information here), you may also want to check out the DV Academy. There are often beginner's courses offered and it gives you the chance to get some great one on one advice. Good luck on your attempts, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
