Almost succesful DEILD
Hey,
I've been trying out WILD for almost two weeks, with no real results, when I stumbled upon DEILD - somehow it just seemed to fit me.
I often have dreams where I'm sort of aware of the events as they unfold, and as such have an easier time telling when I might wake up.
Either way, I've tried DEILD for two days(nights, I suppose), coupled with some auto-suggestion, and tonight I think I was really close.
I woke up, moved a bit, then I laid down and my mind randomly started visualizing the dream I was just having - sadly I was zapped by some kind of lightning in the dream just as that tingly SP feeling set in, so I became too aware.
The dream was about being lucid too, I remember being there with some friends and summoning stuff and trying out all sorts of stuff.
Anyway, no real point to the post, I was just really excited about having progress - and I think I have found the method that will work for me.
Might as well throw in a few questions :)
Have any of you tried binaural beats, and have experienced that certain tracks increase your dream vividness/recall?
Is there any way to "train" realizing you're in a dream? I mean, when I experience my dreams, it is often quite obvious that it's not real, yet I don't instantly become lucid (as in, able to control things etc)

Nice, I hope you'll have some more success in the future.
As for your questions:
Binaural Beats: I tried them and they didn't do a lot for me, a big part of the problem being though I have problems sleeping with headphones. But I can tell you that a lot of people have success with Binaural Beats/Isochronic Tones. It's always worth giving it a few tries.
As for training to realize you're dreaming: There are many ways to do that, for example Reality Checks. The easiest and most common around here being the nose-plug RC. Essentially you're just pinching your nose, trying to breathe. In reality that will obviously not work but in dreams you'll have a very high chance of getting lucid because you'll be able to breathe just normally. Just do few of these checks all around the day, just make sure to always really doubt everything being real for a moment. After some time that behaviour will seep over into your dreams and might make you lucid sometime.
Another way is practicing awareness in real life. Try to be as aware as possible and look for strange things. Just like RCs that might seep over into your dreams, making you more likely to notice these strange things in your dreams.

Hi,
Congrats on your progress!
I believe, DEILD will only work, if after waking up from a dream you don't move and don't open your eyes. That way you stay in REM and are able to enter a dream (unless you were at the end of that REM cycle). There are some great DEILD tutorials in DV Wiki. (I discovered DEILD just a few days ago, after an accidental DEILD. Great experience.)
As StaySharp said, RCing and practising daytime awareness will help you increase your chance to realize you are dreaming. I would also recommend to throw in some mantras for good measure:)

I sometimes feel like I'm watching the events as they unfold while dreaming, yet I don't feel lucid, since everything just sort of seems natural, and I can't control anything at all.
I think you're right, awareness might help things along - I have been trying to implement SAT into my routine, but I think it's difficult to get started.
I wish I could just have my first lucid, that way I would have something to start me off, see if I'm heading in the right direction.

Well, for starters, I would recommend you try MILD/DILD. It's probably easier than WILD. I got my first LD after all day reading posts and tutorials on this site and thus completely saturating my mind with Lucid Dreaming.
I picked a few mantras and kept repeating them a few times every hour, while really believing in them, and doing some RCs - nose plug and hand/palm. Although I have read, that one of the most reliable RCs is looking at your hands, I dismissed it, because I don't remember ever seeing my hands in my dreams, so I was pretty sure it won't work for me. But I decided to do a few of those anyway.
And what do you know - when in a dream, after asking myself if this is a dream, my right hand came in my view by itself (exactly as I practised), and when I saw my hand all distorted, I realized I'm dreaming and became lucid.
Controll - it will come with practice. All you need is to believe that you can do it, and you will.
Feel free to PM me:)
