      Rushing a Lucid Dream

Hey, guys. I'm rather bad at thinking up how to start a new topic, so I'll cut right to the chase.

I've had quite a few lucid dreams, I don't exactly remember how many. All within the past 2 - 4 years. I can't particularly remember. I've read up a ton on lucid dreams because of this; they interest me, how can they not?

Anyway, my two past lucid dreams have felt rather forced and rushed. Meaning that the second I realize I'm dreaming, I start to get ahead of myself and I try to do tons of things at once out of excitement. I just can't seem to calm myself down enough to think out what it is I want to do properly.

I've never actually succeeded in having a lucid dream that's felt like it lasted more than 5 minutes. It's rather frustrating.

Any tips for an idiot who can't control their excitement?

I have had the same exact problem as you. There's a very simple answer, stabilization. Once you become lucid, just relax, take a deep breath, observe the surroundings around you. Just let yourself be at peace and relaxed with the idea that you are now in your own world. Tell yourself that you have all the time in the world and there is no need to rush. Feel whatever is around you, touch the leaves, feel the warm radiant sun against your face and the cool crisp air, feel the hard stable ground beneath your feet, smell the aroma of the air, look at the details of your hands or any other object that is near by. Once you feel relaxed and ready to lucid dream, tell yourself that you are the master of your dream and that you command your dream to serve you well, and to obey your every command until you are ready to wake up. And then just start. If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me or any of the dream guides, it's their job to help you

      Happy dreaming,
      Atras.

      Happy dreaming,
      Atras.
Thanks! I really appreciate the reply and I'll give what you suggested a try. I think I just get so nervous that my dream will end and it'll be a waste. They don't happen often for me, so it's quite exhilarating when they actually do.

I also have one more question. I haven't really been able to find a straightforward answer, and there are so many stickies and links people suggest to read. It's a tad overwhelming.

But when you're in a dream, I'm not really sure how you actually attempt to control yourself to realize you're dreaming. I mean trying to do a RC. But then again, all my lucids have been spontaneous and random; not ones that I provoked into happening. Do you basically have to get your mind used to checking RC's constantly? Would doing them in waking life a lot help your dream self remember to check?

You want to do reality checks often (I do them once an hour) and make them a habbit, BUT you don't want to do them so often you completely forget why your doing them! The idea is if you do them enough in waking life then they will carry down into your dreams. This tutorial explains it in more detail, and i'm sure will help you.

Also don't stress out too much about lucid dreaming! Just keep confident and you will get them! Good luck!

You must get into the habit of stabilizing your dreams immediately upon achieving lucidity. This would be much easier if you started doing so when you first learned about lucid dreams (because it would be second nature to you by now), but thats okay. Just remember to tune into the dream world and use all your senses as Atras mentioned above. This will help you "anchor" into the dream environment better.

      Good luck!

      Thanks, guys~

I was practicing WILD's last night and today after WBTB'ing. WILD's can get pretty intense, but it's crazy fun.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I feel a lot more confident that I can do this now.
