Technically, SP naturally occurs every single time you fall asleep, but usually it goes in the following order.
You're in bed --> You go unconscious --> Your body isn't moving --> SP to stop your body from acting out dreams --> Non-lucid
When WILDing, you switch the order up a bit.
You're in bed --> You pretend to go unconscious --> You make sure your body isn't moving --> SP to stop your body from acting out dreams --> Lucid
And that's the gist of it. SP is both the unconsciously-occurring paralysis, and that which occurs when you're still awake. :)
