I think I'm awake

Hi All,

Just signed up. I've been interested in Lucid Dreaming ever since I first read about it when I was a teenager (15 years ago) but I've never really TRIED it. I've never kept a dream journal (always meant to). I have had moments in dreams when I have realised it was a dream (maybe 3 or 4 in the past), but I've always over excited myself and woken up!
I thought it was time to give it a proper try, so here I am.

The excitement will pass with time, the first couple tend to be short, you just need to breathe slowly, and take in your surroundings. When you become lucid, the dream destabilizes, so give it a moment to restabilize before doing anything.

I want to second everything written especially the bold part. The first few are almost always a very overwhelming experience.

Right you are Ninja, and I would also like to add, that having become lucid in the past is definitely a good thing. It will probably be a lot easier for you than some other beginners. You have already experienced it, so you know 100% that its possible for you. Most beginners believe it is possible, but even a shadow of a doubt can hinder progress. It is a hump that you will not have to overcome. Good luck to you and if ever have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask! Oh, welcome to the site, btw

It is definatly good to know it's happened before! I was talking with my girlfriend last night and she said when she was a kid she used to be able to 'change' her dreams. She described it as like changing the TV channel, "I'm bored with this dream, let's try somthing new". So that's good, she doesn't think I'm mental at least.
We also have a four week old Daughter, and I'm hoping to encourage her to keep a dream diary and lucid dreams. It would be great if she just took to it naturally, without even thinking it's any different to normal.

Well that is good, lol. Half the times when I tell my friends or family about it I get the, "Dude, you are scaring me " look, lol. Oh well, its their loss I suppose.

I get that all the time, only my friend Nick who is currently trying it right now believes me. I can't wait for him to get his first LD. Lucid Dreaming is definitely one of those things that is 10x cooler when you and your best friend do it. Like watching a movie. WAY better with a friend then alone.

I guess it depends on your audience and how you approach it. I have friends who are spiritual, so I could approach it that way with them (not me, I'm not a spiritual person), and others who are very scientific so would approach it from a psychological point of view (which is where my interest lies). Although to be fair, I'm not going to mention this to my mates until I have had at least one LD.

Lol, well some of them listen and at least pretend to be interested, but I can just tell that they don't really understand the possibilities. Then of course, I got one buddy who just wants to hear all the random people I have had sex with in my lucids, lol. They are my boys, so I'm not really scaring them, lol. Its more like a "Dude you are weird" look. Which I never take that as an insult
