Thread: I became lucid last night for the first time...

Evening fellow dreamers,

Waking Life started me on a path down lucidity lane many years ago, I can't remember exactly what motivated me to watch it, probably one of Linklaters other classics but up until last night I had never reached lucidity. I'd pretty much given up, after attempting a few techniques and not getting any results I got despondent and settled with my vivid normality but last night, last night was something else...

...and now i'm here

Most of us need a mental break from trying to lucid dream, but during the break is when a lot of us get that lucid.

That feeling is freaking amazing. I just had a lucid during a nap today after a long dry spell. Although it was short, it reminded me of how great it felt to come to the realization that you are in a dream.

The whole experience was new, and totally unexpected, I was walking down a road and was aware that someone was talking gibberish across the steet, this was the first queue that wasn't quite right I turned to the guy that was walking at my side and asked him to say something; again gibberish and it was at that point I became conscious that I was dreaming. It was like the voice in your head similar to one i'm hearing now as I type this.

It felt so profound and the clarity was so sharp.

I then, like many went on to jump off some steps and started flying, but it felt very awkward, no swooping around, more like riding a bike for the first time, after a few moments I managed to gain some height and began to worry that I wouldn't be able to land, day turned to night quickly as I transitioned through some cloud cover and as I hurtled towards the ground thinking I was about to wake up with a bang I slowed right down and managed to gracefully walk out of the decent. A group of children came running up to me asking how I could do that (on retrospect I noted I could understand them), I then went on to fly off again, a little more easier and again hit cloud and started to panic as I didn't know how to get out / wakeup and it was at that point my eyes opened and I was back to "reality"...AMAZING!

Sounds like a great first time LD . Now that you know what its like, it will be much easier to lucid in the future! I used to have plenty of LDs many years back, but I kinda forgot about it due to lack of interest and proper methods. I strongly suggest you spend some time on this forum, it has helped me ALOT. I thought I was the only person on earth having sleep paralysis and lucid dreams until i discovered this website. Just being aware of the phenomena let alone might bring you on the right track, as it did for me. Personally I recommand using your hands for reality check. Last night I checked my hands discovering they were half transparent and containing stars, planets and galaxies, which usually don't happen when I'm awake.
