I have been trying to lucid dream for about a month now. I wasn't doing very well at first so I decided to take baby steps and just try to start getting better at remebering my dreams. Now I can remember at least one dream per night. Do you think I could be close to my first lucid dream? Should I go for a lucid dream tonight?

Yeah I think you should. So as long as you don't put to much stress on it. You'll be fine.
Well focusing on dream recall is definitely a good start. It took me four months to have my first lucid dream but some people have them in a week.
You should be trying every night to have a lucid dream. I used the schedule in this tutorial (How to Lucid Dream - Dreamviews Lucid Dreaming Community & Resource) and suddenly had my first LD a week later.
go for a lucid dream every night but also go to bed to remember your dreams thats the catch.
