Exclamation Reality checking -- Post your technique's here please

      Guys & Girls,

I've been trying to find the best technique, but think I'm performing a "overkill" of RC's.

I would like to hear your thoughs on :

      1. How often you RC ?
      2. Which technique do you use ?
      3. When do you RC ?
      4. How many techniques per RC you use ?

Personally, every hour of the day I :

      1. I close my left eye and see if I can see my nose
      2. Check my watch and see if the numbers change
      3. Jump up, and see if I float down
      4. Perfom a match calculation and see if it make sense
      5. Read text, look away, read text
      6. Pinch my nose
      7. Try to put finger through my hand

      Is this too much ?

Some people say, do the opposite, pretent you are dreaming ?
Some people say, do RC when you see a dream sign which I don't really have yet,
Some people say, try light switches

The more posts the better...can read your idea's..

I think maybe thats a lil too much. I think as long as you know RCs exist and do a couple in the day, doin a million wont really help

From what I've personally experienced, you don't need to do it nearly that often. I would almost think it'd be counterproductive, just for the fact that if you do it all the time on a set schedule, it's so ingrained into your routine that you'll do it in a dream and just kind of go on with whatever you were doing. For instance, the only reality check I really do anymore is looking at my hands. I check to see that I have 5 fingers, and that they're all the right size.

I used to do it about 50 times a day at least...I got to the point when I would be dreaming, look at my hand (of course it would be all messed up) and I still wouldn't go lucid. Though that may just be me.

As for how often to do an RC, I'd suggest like you said, whenever you see your dream sign, or (as I tend to do) just at any given time during the day that you think about dreaming, or when something doesn't feel/seem right. For instance, if you experience Deja Vu...or however you spell it lol...

I hope this helps, though I'm assuming it wont

      This. All of this.

One of the worst things you can do is turning RCs into a habit. The point of a reality check is to get you thinking about your surroundings, questioning things, becoming aware of what's happening all around you. That awareness is what makes you lucid. Without it, you're fighting an uphill battle.

I count my fingers anytime something seems a little off. If I'm dreaming, my hand will be majorly deformed. Or transparent, one of the two.

I might up my RCs to include watch-checking, though. I haven't been getting many lucids, lately.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

I check myself to see if I feel achy, or gravity It's hard to explain, but in my dreams, I don't really feel my body... so I can instantly tell when I'm dreaming, based on that feeling alone.

That said, this doesn't get me lucid... it's merely an infallible reality check (for me).

How often do I do it? It's hard to say, I don't count. Whenever I think about it. I think about dreaming a lot, so it definitely coincides with that.

I used to look at my hands and that worked great for my first few lucids but then my brain caught on haha and ever since iv always had 5 fingers in my dreams that I know of. Now my RC is looking between my pinky finger and the finger next to it and I grow an extra pinky finger. In WL I just try to push a finger out and expect it to happen, when im dreaming it slides out very easily and its only failed me once that I know of.

In non-lucids I have great trouble remembering phone numbers that I can recall instantly in real life. Something I want to try in my next lucid is to see how well I recall the number. If I can't remember the phone number as well as I can when waking then it might prove to be a good RC.

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

I think you will most likely find it extremely hard to remember consecutive numbers in a dream

i find watching an analog clock, and seeing if the seconds remain constant, then looking away and looking back to see if time changed
or an interesting i thought of , try and find any form of music player and then listen to a song, when i have tried listing to a song in my dream, it screws up, although i have not tried it as a RC

Except of looking at my hands or/and at an analog clock I always try to remember what I was doing before the RC. That is, you wont remember if you're actually dreaming
But oh well, choosing your RC techniques is up to you.

Pinch my nose, and looking at a digital watch.

And I normally do it whenever I remember. Or when I'm laying down, just in case of false awakenings.

I count fingers mostly. It's gotten to the point now where I will do it jokingly as part of conversations when someone says something I refuse to believe they actually would.

I also look at myself in the mirror, check my necklace, and read things. I don't do every one every time, and I do them somewhere between 2 and 10 times a day, no schedule.

Well persistence is key to most anything!

Nah, three weeks isn't bad at all, especially if it's a particularly vivid one
