More Introductions

Hey, I'm sure the regulars have seen plenty of these things already. I've never really "studied" lucid dreaming in any meaningful sense before, so my experiences with it have been kinda weird. I used to have fairly constant "chasing" nightmares when I was in my teens. I had a really intense dream where I finally confronted the "chaser" which cut down on the frequency, and since then the times where I have had those types of dreams I've been able to alter things slightly in order to escape. Simple stuff like "there's a door here now because I need there to be a door here" or "I'm gonna jump down this flight of stairs in one leap and be totally fine because that's how physics works now."

I'm interested in learning some more technique (or maybe just giving myself some more structure so I have to practice) for two reasons. One is that I desperately need some stress relief that I just don't have the time to work into my waking hours and I think I could manage to get in dreams if I had more than a utilitarian approach to lucid dreaming. The other is the fact that my boyfriend has absolutely horrific nightmares every night and he's willing to try out lucid dreaming again as a way to manage them better, and he's going to want someone to work with on that.

I'm not super worried about recall for either of us, we both remember a good percentage of the dreams we have and they tend to be fairly vivid. I'm mostly interested in ways to induce the "reality check" in naturally occurring dreams, so that we have a practical toolbox for dealing with nightmares.

I'd also love to hear from anyone who's had a "shared dreaming" experience, although I know that's kinda controversial.

Firstly, Lucid Dreaming is an EXCELLENT method to completely remove nightmares, while also giving a one-of-a-kind experience. In my oppinion, NOTHING can compare to how amazing a true Lucid Dream can be [Drugs, Acid, Extacy, SkyDiving, Racing, etc].

There are many types of inductions you can try in order to Lucid Dream. - DILD, WILD, MILD, FILD, DEILD, EILD, etc

I know of many people who have been able to "cure" chronic nightmares by the means of Lucid Dreaming... So you are in luck.

As for reality-checks, just try and get into the habit of doing them throughout the day- particularly when you notice something strange. Do a good thorough one several times a day, even if you're sure you're awake. One time, it'll turn out that you aren't! My favourite is the hand RC. (Look at your hand- in a dream it will be deformed in some way) But it's up to you- you might prefer the nose-pinch (try and breathe) but I like the hand because it doesn't look as weird when you do it in public.

As you can see from my user name, my name is Raven, and I'm one of "those people" who have had shared lucid dreaming experiences... a lot of them, to be honest. First with my boyfriend, now ex-boyfriend, now with several users on Dream Views and Mortal Mist, for a total of about 15 years. It is true that there are many people who don't believe sharing a dream is possible, it is really something most people have to experience for themselves before making up their minds if they want to believe in it or not.

Where do you stand on shared dreaming? And how about your boyfriend? Does he believe in shared dreaming? If you both believe in shared dreams then maybe we could help with his nightmares through a shared dream. There are a few things I would have to know before I could get into your dreams or your boyfriend's dreams, I will tell you what I need to know if you are interested in trying this. hi raven i had l.d a couple of nights ago, i was in a really big mall, the detail was amazing. i was just walking up a central part, id mostly flown till then and saw a coffee shop so went in and a girl said hello. it was so real it shocked me into wakeing. does that count as a shared dream.

Unless the girl (or someone else in the dream) was another dreamer and described having the same dream as you did, no... it's just a really vivid lucid dream, which is still cool! I love having dreams that are so vivid they feel real!

But a shared dream is when two people dream the same dream together, then they will both remember their own perspective of the dream, and their accounts of the dream should have a lot of similarities to be considered a 'hit'.
