The gun itself merely governs accuracy, the ease of aiming, and the ability to repeatedly fire again and again. Yes, these things affect the ability to reliably kill something or someone, but the point is that the same round fired from different weapon systems isn't going to magically be more dangerous or have different ballistics unless the round itself is in some way physically altered during its exit from the barrel. The fact that the round is fired from an assault rifle does not make it any more deadly or harder for a psychic or what have you to deflect or stop than a round fired from a hand gun, hunting rifle, or shotgun.
Of course bullet types count, but you can't say that a pistol is more dangerous than a sniper rifle or assault rifle... the bigger the gun, usually the bigger the bullet, and the stronger it's power, so yes, it would be harder to protect yourself with the energy against an assault rifle/shotgun/sniper rifle than a smaller firearm like an usual pistol.
