      Pick a Tarot Deck

There's a large collection of different tarot decks here: Tarot Decks.

Just for fun, pick a deck or two that appeals to you for some particular reason and post it here.
(maybe you like the artwork, or the name of the deck, or one is just more your style for whatever reason)

I'm a huge fan of the Deviant Moon Tarot.

Love the artistic style, reminiscent of ancient Greek art, with a dark abstract and surreal twist.

So if you had to pick a deck...which one would it be?

My favourite of all time is the Mythic deck, but for the last two years I've just used the Rider-Waite deck

      ooo beautiful

It's a shame that some of those scans of tarot decks are kinda crappy, because the cards are so much more lovely in real life.

Indeed, the cards are a lot softer in real life, that scan is a bit harsh with regards to the brightness and contrast.. I once did a reading for a friend and I said, 'Well the cards are saying that you might be pregnant.' A week later she found out she was pregnant. I really connected psychically with the Mythic deck.

Very nice! I often feel that way when I'm holding one of my orbs...I wish they glowed like that though. And I swear I have been in that same exact place before where she is sitting.

I really love these two from the Deviant Moon Tarot. I used to have the Ace of Wands as my Avatar.

This thread was not supposed to be closed...so sorry! For some reason the "close this thread" option keeps getting checked without me checking it. It's weird. Anyways, back to the thread!

Aquanina I have images of the major arcana dating back to the 3rd millenium BC that were used in Babylon. Now, we are told the tarot cards originated in the 15th century AD but I personally know the author of the book with the Babylonian tarot cards so I can say that I believe that his research has validity. It could all be wrong of course. Pick a major arcana card and I will upload a scan for you.

That's fascinating. I always felt skeptical when I read that the tarot was a relatively newer development. I would love to see these ancient cards, feel free to share any of them that you like. I'm especially partial toward the Hermit, the Star, the Moon, the Wheel of Fortune, the Empress, the Tower...just to name a few.

      I use Thoth

But based on the pictures I saw, I really liked Manara Erotica, Margarete Peterson, Osho Zen, Tarot Erotica, Traumzeit and Tarot of the Magical Forest

Closed minded much? Some of us appreciate the artistic style of other decks...I guess what you consider "goofy". It's not like these are angel/oracle cards that gloss over the cards which scare some people, they are legitimate decks. Also I didn't create the thread to ask which deck would be best for beginners, maybe you should reread the original post and try again.

Anyways, since this thread got resurrected ...I still love Deviant Moon Tarot...and I'm getting this one next: Steampunk Tarot

you're confusing maybe closed mind with the simplicity of things.
Eye just reacts to images and cards are just a vessel of a talent.
As simplier are the cards the better.
Except decks like thoth which can only be opened after effort with other decks.
Infact if you can just take some pieces of paper and draw them by yourself is even better.
People who have a talent to see chartography through themselves after a point can use a deck just by placing their hand upon it while cards are closed.
Now if you wanna keep an open mind you can just pick something fancy and wait for the result which is not going to come.
And then maybe you gonna rethink what you've posted in the first place.

Wow that's a lot of Tarot decks.

I agree that Thoth is one of the best, if not the best, but it gives me the creeps.

The Waite deck doesn't work well for me. It doesn't fit my elemental makeup well enough.

I've seen the Osho deck and think it is decent (though I have nothing but derision for Osho the predator-guru).

My current deck doesn't appear to be in the list. I used to have this one though, and its similar:

Both of these decks have enough color, rich imagery, and nudity to feel strongly, but nothing that feels distasteful to me. I like the moon better in this deck though. The moon in my current deck is the moon and two coyotes and a horrible looking knife-toothed swamp octopus thing.

The Tarot is a toy or curiosity to me personally. It 'works' for me in the sense that it never fails to give relevant images, but it rarely if ever tells me anything I don't already feel. It doesn't seem to go very deep somehow. I prefer the Wilhelm translation of the I Ching. I can't say how much value that has been either, but it seems to know more about things like conscience and motive.

Sure I don't mind doing that. Just ask me a question and I'll do a celtic cross spread for it. I don't consider myself an expert, but I've enough experience to know I can get results for strangers.
