Gave up on LD Induction

I was trying to induce lucid dreams and gave up because I had what I thought was a spiritual experience about an year ago. In it, a voice told me to "Just Be" and I was so shaken by the experience I decided I would let an LD come to me if it would. I wouldnt work towards it. In retrospect, this was a fear attack by my ego that worked. I also vaguely remember the word "trick" or "trickery" during the experience. Not much more. One of my goals when I get solid on LDs is to learn more about my inner self. So I am trying again now. My current technique is is go about my day pretending my waking reality is a dream. I heard this was a Tibetan Drem Yoga method. I also will several times during the day look at my hands for 5 mins at least and repeat the words "When I see my hands in my dreams I will realize I am dreaming". I dont want to do reality checks during the day since then I will realize my waking reality is NOT a dream. I will also set alarms for WBTB. Does this seem like a sensible technique?
