Really the only preparation Is to Do reality checks IRL as you normally would.

Anyways, This Is a technique I Always use. When you go to Sleep, instead of thinking like "I will have a lucid dream" or "I will Do a reality check" you will have to think about yourself saying "Am i dreaming" or Such and after That doing a reality check in first-Person view. Now repeat This many times 'till you fall asleep and there Is a really high possibility That you will Do the same thing you thinked of before falling asleep.
