I missed all the chat sessions, and i must of overlooked where the times were, could you give me the days and times so i can participate. Thanks.
I'm sorry but I did a typo in the "Beginners Lucidity Club" thread. There will be a chat session for that club on the 19th not the 16th. Also the regular chat for questions and just random talk will be today, on Tuesdays that is.
Regular chat, questions etc: Tuesdays, 20.00 GMT+2
Beginners Lucidity TaskClub: Thursdays, 20.00 GMT+2
Hey Matte,
Here's a question regarding WB2B.
You say that you don't want to overdo the WB2B. What is a good number of days to put inbetween WB2B Attempts?
Actually, you can't really overdo WBTB, aslong as you have faith in each time. I only do it once or twice a week because I see it as something "special" and that makes me believe in the technique more. I can't really do WBTB's during the weekday so I guess that's why I do it.
hey matte, what's up with chat today?
Hey tblanco. I've changed it so that there will be no chat on Tuesdays, there's simply not enough people who wants to get on. I'll still keep my session on Thursdays though and we'll just talk about everything and anything then, but focusing mainly on the TaskClub.
i totally understand. I feel very lucky to be in such a small class size as it affords you, the instructor, more opportunity for personal instruction. Thanks for all your help Matte.
I'm glad you say that :D I am honoured to have such a dedicated student as yourself. You'll become a great Lucid Dreamer one day with that dedication, so keep it up man!
Poop, i'd gladly join the chat sessions but i'm in class during those times :(
Why don't you make your very own Workbook and join the class anyways? :) Chat times is usually for random chat about Lucid Dreaming, aswell as the previous and upcoming tasks for the TaskClub. I'll check with everyone if there is another night during the week they'd rather have than Thursday nights.
i wanna join does this mean i have to catch up on all the previous week's tasks or i cud start with the one you're giving this week?
wat if i already did this week's task in a previous dream, does it count? or do i have to complete the task again within the week you assign it?
Nope sorry, you have to complete the tasks now. Tasks you've done in the past doesn't count.
Um, what on earth is an REM rebound?
Wouldn't you have trouble controlling that sorta thing? Oh well... I had no dreams last night, due to restlessness, so I might find out if that is what actually is happening tonight :3
If you sleep 5 hours or less you get REM rebound the day after. You start having long periods of REM sleep after your third dreaming cycle which is done at around 4½ hours. Good luck!
i fell that a mantra like''i am dreaming"" not good for me.....how about''when i dream...illknow that i am dreaming'' or is it very long
It's pretty long, you want something short and easy to repeat. You can't have it too long because that'll make it less effective. But it's mostly about intentions anyways so try it, but I advice you take something shorter. "I lucid dream" perhaps?
how about
i will have a lucid dream
it's very short with my languge
Yes that would work :)
where does the ligh in a dream come from?
Our eyes are closed yet we can see so where des the light come from?
Our dreams are capable of creating anything we have experienced, light is experienced every day so that's not really too hard. If you mean when you're about to wake up, then it's because when you start to wake up your real world senses become active and the light in your room shines through your eyelids. That's how the Nova dreamer works, you don't only experience it when you're about to wake up.
.i tried wbtb last night but it was realy hard to o back to sleep and reapeting mantra at the same time...so i just slept...any suggestion
Next time I suggest you do the WBTB at the end of your previous dream cycle, if you did it 6 hours into sleep this time, try 4½ next time. Or you can try shortening the WBTB, some people don't have to do WBTB's that are longer than a few minutes. If the thought process itself is what's keeping you awake then doing mantras for a while is enough. You can then just relax and perhaps imagine a nice scenario or visualize yourself becoming lucid, performing your set up task :) Good luck!
thanx for the advice.
last night i slept and my alarm wake me up after 6 hours of sleep...i wanted to try to mild but i just didn't want to...i don't know how to say this but it's like my motivation just vanished...ididn't t had lac0k of motivation when i first slept....but had when i wake up for mild....what can i do to stop this.
It's very common, but all you can do really is to really look forward to it the night before and remind yourself of how awesome it's going to be once you get lucid (and ofcourse you will after the WBTB). It can require quite alot of discipline to wake up when you really don't have to, but it'll be worth it! Read a few DJ entries from someone experienced or watch a superhero movie, you'll be motivated in no time :)
thanx alot....i'll keep that in mind :D
yesterday i set my alarm for the WBTB tech, but it didn't woke me up, it use to wake me up but i was low movitated or too tierd so i didn't do the tech, now that i get my motivation up when i am going to sleep it can't even wake me up,its like my body don't want me to wake up after 4 and a half hour of sleep or somthing.
any advice
but what if your mother languge is the languge that you dream with, but its the comon languge or (streat languge) that i talk with my friend and my family,in my case its a bit of arabic and french, but it's a poor languge, for example the word lucid and the word conscus and the word i will dont exist althought its the most confortobal because i use it every day,the languge that i study with is the real arabic (its a very rich languge for example we can name a lion with 90 name ) and there is a wide number of mantras that i can use,in the other hand i read all the LD related stuff in english,i even had an entire dream in english.
what to use? that's what i am confused about
I also have problems getting up 4½ hours into sleep, when I wake up I'm exhausted. That's why I set my alarm 6 hours into sleep, then I'm sure I can get up. Also replied to your question in PM :)
my recall has vanished,i could remeber up to 2 dream's per night,but now its been 2 night's i didn't remember a singel dream,please hlp
It's completely natural, I once had a week with zero recall. Recall can come and go even though you're not doing anything differently. If you desperately want a dream, you could do a REM rebound and then sleep in the day after.
Don't worry, you'll have a dream or two tonight and if not tonight, the night after that and if not then, the night after that :)
hmmm,i have another question(sorry if botherd you:oops:),how do i know what time does my REM begins to choose the perfect time to WBTB and WILD.
PS
i have a regular sleep schedule
1½, 3, 4½, 6, 7½ and 9 hours into sleep is when your REM is most likely to be ending. Those times are good for WBTB's. You can try a bit earlier than those if you like. But I always use 6 hours into sleep.
When I was in college, most of my test preparation involved hours of cramming the night before the exam. Sometimes when I would try to sleep after this my sleep induction process was dominated be a series of calculus problems or chemical reactions. It was like I had to solve the problems in order to get to sleep. I would need to stop and remind myself that all that this was not required for sleeping. In retrospect, this was probably really awesome for learning the material, but it was also an unpleasant phantasmagoria of stressful problems.
If found out that this phenomenon has a name: the tetris effect (section on Hypnagogia page)
Hypnagogia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if it could be used to induce lucid dreams some how.
I actually didn't know there was a word for this, but yeah I get that all the time whenever I do an activity for a long period of time. Playing a new game for example or watching series all day. Quite amazing thing :) Not sure if you can use it to induce lucid dreams. Perhaps if you did a certain activity for such a long time, while RC'ing all the time and making sure that it becomes a very big Dream Sign for you. You should have atleast one dream about the activity and when you do, you'll RC and get lucid. I have a really hard time falling asleep when this happens though and I wake up several times during the night with crazy hallucinations going on.
Oh wow no kidding I always get that! I think it might be good to do with mild, maybe.... Although I'm not exactly a genius with this stuff :P
I have been realizing that the places in my dreams are fairly reoccurring. When I read through my dream journal I start to remember other dream places from dreams past, and they are all sort of connected in a giant dream map of sorts. I thought it would be a cool idea to document, organize and study these places in a way that really stresses me out. Combine that with MILD and maybe something could happen.
I like your Idea Matte. Maybe Ill make sure to RC a lot when I am doing something really boring and repetitive at work. This could hopefully save me from spending my dreams doing really lame stuff.
i think i almost forget about a LD!!!!!!!!!!!!,i tried WBTB and MILD,woke up with no recall,go to have my breakfast, then i remembered it,not all of it
i was walking when i realized that i was going to sleep just mints ago,i did a RC to be sure this is a dream .....yep it is ,i tried to fly superman style but i couldn't,so i tried swimming tech.
i don't remeber a thing after this, quite odd,i thought that you can't forget LDs :? any explication will be much appreciated.
Lucid Dreams are just like normal dreams to our brains, only when you experience them you're actually trying to remember things you're experiencing. This doesn't guarantee you to recall it though, but I think the biggest reason for them being easier to recall is that you hang on until the end and wake up afterwards. Sometimes I have to struggle to get something with me through the mental "barrier", but most of the times I can. Too long LD's can also result in loss of recall, had a very long LD once and forgot more than half of it.
I normally wake up about twice in the night, around the same time. This usually splits my sleep into 3 roughly equal parts. So WBTB seems like it is a pretty good Idea since i wake up at the right time for it anyways. My question is this: In your personal opinion, what is the best length of time to stay awake? And should I have the lights on or keep them off?
I normally just wake up, write down any dreams I had if I am not too lazy and take a leak. I try to keep the lights off and use my cell phone light to write with.
Any suggestions?
Matte, can you hear anything in your dreams?
I've been wondering about that for a while. :uhm:
I've just have never been able to remember any sounds from my dreams.
Coelhao: Well, I used to stay up for 40 or so minutes, but now I only stay up for 20 if I am doing a proper WBTB. That seems about enough time for me, but when I did the longer ones back in the day I had a much higher success rate.
Sydney: Yeah I can, people talking and all that. Now lucids might be a bit tricky. Sounds like crashes and stuff might not always be there, but whenever I sing I hear my own voice. Try it! It's a great way of stabilizing the dream :)
For those of you who are wondering. The Competition will start next Saturday :)
Thanks Matte! :)
Oh yeah another question.. since you are able to sing in the dream, can you "practice" and get better? :)
Like work on your talents and stuff? Always wondered that as well.
Well, singing involves the use of your vocal cords and there muscle memory comes into the picture. Although I've read about people getting better at like, snowboarding for example by dreaming and thinking alot about it, I doubt you can get any better at singing :) If I had to make a guess, I'd say that you can get better at an activity by performing it in a dream, but the amount of time you're spending doing the activity is not enough for it to be substantial.
Ok, I see. Thanks!
Oh, I have a question that I asked on the WILD forum but nobody gave me an answer! Here it is:
Is it easier to WILD if I don't have a sleep pattern at all? And is it easier to WBTB if I do have a sleep pattern?
If you don't have a sleep pattern, then you might benefit from it when it comes to naps and REM, but if you do then you know exactly when you can WILD and you won't have trouble falling asleep if your body is used to it. I recommend you keep a stable sleeping pattern. Same thing applies to WBTB's. If you have a regular sleeping pattern you won't have trouble falling asleep again if your body is used to get a few more hours of sleep.
Thanks, Matte! I'll try to have a pattern, then!
Hi, Matte! I have a quick question about reality checks... About two, three days ago, I had two false awakenings. I ended up checking a paper with written stuff and they seemed fine. I couldn't see anything weird about them, so I figured I wasn't dreaming. In both dreams (they happened in the same night), I looked at the mirror and that's when I realised I was dreaming.
Last night, I had another false awakening and, in my dream, I was suspicious, so I decided to look at the mirror. I did that and there was nothing wrong with me. So my question is: is it possible for my mind to be playing tricks on me? Like, it knows I'm doing a reality check and it makes me think it's all real? Cause that's what it looks like. And if it's really doing that, what can I do to notice I'm being tricked by myself? Should I just keep trying lots of reality checks until one of them works?
Well, the reason you're not getting lucid whenever you RC is because you haven't been doing the RC's entirely right. What you want to do anytime at all that you feel like you should question your reality, is to really question it. Use all 5 senses, check your memory and figure out if the place you're in or the situation you're in is really logical. Then you should perform a RC and even multiple ones if you can just in case. It seems like you're having an easy time to get the spark of lucidity going, but you need to be even more critical of your surroundings.
Thanks, Matte! :) Next time I feel confused about my surroundings, I'll question it more, instead of just relying on one RC.
I'm sorry for this, but could you please read my post here and let me know waht exactly that was?
Hello, Matte! I've had this experience ever since... well, forever, really, but I'm not sure what it is... I'll just give an example: in most of my dreams (non-lucid), I'm being followed by someone who wants to kill me, I end up thinking "oh, I should pretend I'm invisible!" and then I know I'm still visible (I can see my arms, my legs, my body), I know that the person can still see me, but they act like they can't.
It's almost like when you're a kid and you're playing with someone, like they pretend to shoot you and you go all "actually, I threw myself on the floor before the bullet hit me, I'm still alive!" That also happens when I try to fly in my dreams (again, non-lucid). People are following me, they get too close and I go all "well, sucks to be you, cause I'll fly now"... and I stop running, start walking and they start walking behind me, everybody pretending that I'm flying.
Is that control or just a really child-like reality in my dreams? I am completely unaware that I'm dreaming when this happens (which, yes, should be a dream sign to me... but I have yet to make that connection in my dreams).
