It's happened to me a few times before. It's extremely weird. I wake up and it seems as if during the dream I could kind of see what was going on in the room I was laying in. I'm not sure.
It usually happens in the day after I've stayed up all night.
Same thing happened to me a few months ago, i was dreaming and opened my eyes, it was like that book turning disolve you get in movies, i could see half the dream world and half the 'real' world.
My little brother used to do that all the time as a kid (that and fall asleep at the table and land face first in his plate)....scared the hell out of everyone, we thought he was dead. Don't know what his dreams were like. I have slept with one eye open and it was like you said....dreaming and seeing the room at once. Kinda cool.
