I prefer reversing two of the words to create "I AM dreaming," which, when turned into a mantra, becomes a powerful tool for both self-affirmation and auto suggestion. 
when performing a reality check, I momentarily suspend all I know or think I know and make like I'm dreaming. Then, I try to find something out of the ordinary to back up the notion that I'm dreaming. If I fail, instead of saying, "I can't possibly be dreaming," I say, "Well, I must be having a hella hard time becoming lucid at the moment. I shall try again later."
