I find that almost every time I awake from a lucid dream I am lying on my back (supine position). However on non-lucid nights i will frequently wake up on my stomach, or on my side. Is this a common thing?

There's been some posts about sleeping positions. Here's one of them: http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2906 I hope that's helpful.

This is semi-related...
I have a tempur-pedic pillow, its fucking awesome, but it doesnt seem to alter my dreams at all...
does anyone have the tempur-pedic mattress?
temper pedic is my dream bed, hopefully one day i can afford it...
my personal experience so far with sleeping positions is that i LD best in the most comfortable position possible, however, i've noticed i can get into really intense hynogogic imagery and OBE experiences while on my back, however, because i'm not as comfortable, i tend to jerk out of it or lose concentration, but once i roll to my side, i can continue from where i left off without any problems. I think you just have to experiment and find what works best for you since so much of this process is based on individual preference.
Actual studies have been done that show that the frequency of lucid dreams increases by about 50% when people sleep on their back or right side. My experiences seem to support that. Sad, since I'm most comfortable on my left side, but if it means more lucid dreaming, being a little less comfortable is worth it.
Eventually, sleeping on you back will become more comfortable after a while.
I'm gonna try that.

I think that was the one I was looking for, but couldn't think of the key words. Thanks, Howetzer :sunflower:

I've noticed that *every time* I have a lucid dream, I wake up in a certain position. I'm laying flat on my back with my head at a 45 degree angle to the right.
It's never when I'm fully sleeping on my right side or left side, it's *always* on my back with the head at a 45 degree angle.
Regarding Tempur-Pedic mattresses and the like:
I used to work at Brookstone trying to sell these things. Now that I no longer work there I will ditch the sales pitch. They're tremendously expensive and all they basically are is molded foam with a certain amount of springiness. Sure, they're comfortable. So are most mattresses. The only difference is that most mattresses don't cost $3,000 each. There's a placebo effect associated with expensive items. The more someone spends (or wants to spend), the more their brain will try to justify the purchase. People will tell themselves they're getting a better night's sleep even though they may be just as physically comfortable as before. Often, people will want what's most expensive even if there is no scientifically verified benefit to it (in-house studies, ie, what the company selling the product says about their own product, do not count), and rationalize it by thinking it's so much better than the cheaper products that perform the same function. Penn & Teller's Bullshit! did an episode all about this, and their conclusion was that there is a lot of marketing gimmickry in sleep products like pillows and mattresses. What one need do is try out different ones, regardless of price (this is what furniture stores are for, so you can test the product before you commit), and pick whatever feels most comfortable. Hell, have someone go with you to cover up the price tag so you don't know how much each one costs. It's amazing what you'll decide you like if you don't know what kind of value it has been given by the seller and society at large. You may expect to buy a $1,000 mattress and end up liking a $450 one better than all the rest. Hell, I spent several years sleeping on a mat on the floor, and I never thought it was that uncomfortable. Humans have been sleeping on the hard ground throughout most of their evolution. You really don't need a mattress that will cost two or three entire paychecks. Of course, if you have the extra cash, and don't know what to do with it... just send it to me! =D
lol
i read somewhere on this forum that switching sleep environment can trigger vividness to access lucidity so i think that if you like switch from sleeping flat on the floor (with a blanket of course )
to sleeping normally on your bed it could help .
I've noticed that when i go to sleep elsewhere than at my home i have much more longer dreams
