Can anyone wake themselves from their dreams, purposely?

Sorry if this in the wrong forum, wasn't sure where it could fit.

I was just wondering if anyone could purposely wake themselves from a dream, inparticularly, a nightmare. I learned how to do it when I was younger, so rarely had an encounter with anything scary. Just before something could grab me, or just as something came closer, I'd close my eyes real tight, and roll around on the floor, and wake up a few seconds later. Thought it was a pretty damn nifty

you could wake yourself up, or you could just fight whatever it is. you'll always win. i've yet to loose a fight in my dreams. i've woken myself up but i'm not sure how controlled it is.

Yep, you can will yourself to wake up while dreaming. Obviously you'd have to realize first that you're dreaming, and then "fight" to wake up. False awakenings are very possible though.

Yeah, In the mornings I can usually go back and forth.

If you are lucid, and have trouble doing it mentally, just yell out "WAKE UP!" or try to do something way past your ability.

I have woken myself up from some stressful dream situations before..I just force my eyes open with my hands telling myself I must wake up from this bad dream..I either wake up or I have a false awakening thinking that I woke up..When I was a boy these stressful dreams were usually monstersas I got older the anxiety became dreams of world crisis. such as war or disaster or invasion..it must be too uncomfortable for me to face so I try to escape..sometimes I do hold a stand off and I do fight back..

I can wake up. I usually am in a nightmare that I don't want to continue, so I am lucid by then. And so I wake.

      Welcome dani and blake! :yumdumdoodledum:

yes, you can wake yourself, its very easy once you learn
thats how brandon boyd started down the path of lucid dreaming, as he says, 'when i used to run into my moms room crying because of a nightmare, she told me, just snap your fingers 3 times and you will wake up!'

      and that started him off!

oh and by the way, did i mention, INCUBUS IS SO COOL!

I used to have really annoying, boring dreams, about a spinning orange statue (don't ask).

I learnt how to wake myself up after that. I suppose everyone has their own "technique".

I usually wake up if i want to change something in a dream - such as change something dramatically and very fast... The dream just collapses...

I sometimes am unable to wake myself up..this usually happens when I am not supposed to leave the astral..and you dont always win a fight you know..then I gues you have yet to face things that cannot simply be beaten by conjured up weapons, matrix fighting powers, magicc or the like..

all the demons, eh? i have yet to experience one, not really looking forward to it though.

Today, everything was fine. Until roundabout, quarter to nine, I suddenly found myself in a bind. Was it something I said? Something I read an manifested that’s getting you down.[/b]

Some (lesser/weaker)demons can be beaten with that sort of weaponry, they are basicly your basic nightmare being who can be whiped easily, like asif it was a dream character.

The type of demons that come just depends on how open you are to the astral plane and how much light one emits, darkness is atracted to light..it wants to consume it. Basicly the only option to avoid fighting demons is being dark and evil yourself..doesnt apeal to me though , mabey somebody evil around here lol?

Usually I am in control of my dream and there are no monsters and spooky things around. When I see a monster then I am at first shocked and just beafore I scream I realize that it is a dream and then I am GOD...
      I love scary dreams.
I can wake up any time I wan't, but I do that only when I remember that I have to go somewhere in the morning...

But has anyone really took noticed of that Transistion period from the time you will yourself awake till the moment you wake up. Its the craziest thing, I can discribe it or explain it but maybe its my technique. When Im ready to wake from a dream I usually close my eyes and try to Move a portion of my Physical body within my dream like wiggling my fingers or moving my leg. And I can feel the connection from my dream but the ill feeling is when I make that connection.

Closing my eyes for a long period usually gets me in the void X_X. Usually I just wake up, like boom. Gnerally when something has come to an conclusion.

I went through a phase when I was younger of feeling a sensation of being half awake and half asleep - this is how I used to describe it as I'd never heard of lucid dreaming then. I would feel scared and want to wake up but if I tried to open my eyes they felt like they were sealed shut. My whole body would feel heavy and if I tried to lift my arms I found that they felt like they were stuck to the bed. I would think to myself to call out for somebody to wake me up but when I tried it seemed as though I could barely make any sound. My mum did actually say one morning after it had happened that she heard me calling out "Wake me up." At the time I never really had any idea what this was but this experience is what urged me to learn more about lucid dreaming (once I'd heard of it). When I had these dreams, I suppose I was in the stage of sleep paralysis, something scared me and I decided that I wanted to wake up, and even though it seemed an impossible task I did eventually wake up. Hope that this may have been a useful bit of information for you.

As a matter of fact, I had one just the other night. I was being chased by some evil thing in my house and it got to the point where I couldn't take it any more. I just told myself to wake up and I did so. I odd thing about it is that I wasn't lucid dreaming, it was just a normal dream and yet I knew that I could wake up.

      wierd...

I rarely, if ever, remember dreams (I'm just starting to practice dream recall. I haven't even had one dream yet.) , but in the two in which I was "Lucid" I woke myself up whenever I wanted to. Once I realized it was a dream, I screwed around for a bit and decided to wake up because I wanted to wake up. Big mistake. After those I got all sad because I didn't have any more.

Don't be so hard on yourself, and take some time and practice recall, even if you dont remember your dreams fully, write down ANYTHING AT ALL, even if its feelings when you wake up.

Yeah, I'm concentrating quite hard. I'm going to sleep extra early tonight, possibly that will help.

That is the case with most people...more/better sleep=more/better dreams.
