Just how smart is our subconscious mind?

So if I use the affirmation/mantra, "I will realise I am dreaming" how can we be sure the subconscious mind knows what we are talking about? How do we know when we are making affirmations about things as unquantifiable as lucidity that the subconscious isn't getting its wires crossed and actualising our desire in the waking world instead of the dream world?

And what does it mean to "Realise" you are dreaming? How can I realise I'm dreaming when in a lot of my waking hours I don't even realise I'm awake - thanks to habitual behaviour?

I'm not too sure how to answer the subconscious part but as for realizing your dreaming its just like "oh, this is a dream."

To realize your dreaming you need to change how you think during the day and become more aware of things, awareness during the day leads to awareness at night.

Lol, you sound exactly like my Philosophy teacher freshman year! On a serious note, breaking up the routine a bit and becoming more aware in waking life can help you become more aware while asleep (Lucid) IMHO.

I may say, our subconscious is as smart as the creator. There is nothing hidden from it.

The subconcious knows, believe me it knows what you do and the meaning behind it BUT....The only reason y it's so difficult to get the message through is because lucid dreaming is not for real not happening now in real time.....you are not doing the reality check for real because you know you are not dreaming. And to realise you are dreaming for real is to be in the dream but when will you ever be in the dream for the subconcious to accept the idea and dream it? I know this because I can dream of things at will/by accident like bowling I love bowling, my favorite hobbies, things I don't like and my mother's death. All these have common attiributes, they are for real and happening for real as long as I am concious...it's not conditional like lucid dreaming where I have to be in a dream to be lucid dreaming.

This is assuming that the subconscious is an actual cohesive whole. Things that are unconscious are just out of the realm of the conscious mind. Nowhere in psychology is the unconscious referred to as something that can actually "think". I think saying something like an affirmation over and over again just embeds that specific thought into our personality and nature. Our personality then translates over into the dream world. If the unconscious is intelligent then it would have to be able to understand and process information and make judgments based on the info. In other words it would have to think. If it can think then it is loosely an actual separate entity from ourselves. No where is there any evidence that this would be the case. In my opinion to many people think of the unconscious as this imaginary friend that is inside our minds reviewing everything we do. The unconscious is just that, that which isn't conscious. Any process that our brain has control of but not that we are aware of. Our heart beats and we breath because it is underlying programing in our brain structure, not because the unconscious is willfully making a decision to keep us alive.
