Stereophonic sound
So last night in my dream, my phone was ringing and I answered it. When I put it to my ear, it was playing music. But I vividly remember hearing the sound in both of my ears. So I switched to the other ear. Same thing, I could hear the sound in both ears. I thought I was going crazy.
It wasn't until after I woke up and wondered if stereophonic dreaming is possible (I would assume it is.) But here I was, definitely dreaming in mono. Then later I wondered if this could be used as a decent reality check. Of course it depends on if stereophonic dreaming is possible.
But in our everyday lives, I doubt most people think about hearing in stereo. And so in one's dreams, it's likely to be the same. When we hear ambient sounds, we hear sound in both ears (i.e., for those of us with two working ears.) I figure the only way to truly test stereophonic sound as a reality check would be to put a single earphone (or telephone) to one of your ears and see if you are hearing its sounds in both ears.

Yes, sounds like a possible reality check.
Tell us if you get it to work.

My dreams are pretty much stereophonic, in one of them I was standing near a highway (there was also a flying saucer, but nvm) and could tell which way the cars were passing by. Doppler effect was present too. :)
