Thread: Possible VILD?

Alright, well, I'm not quite sure what constitutes a VILD, so... a little help here, if you could? Anyways, we took the equivalent of the SAT today. Being so easy, I had about 30 minutes to do nothing. I started to fall asleep, and I had a little... daydream, I guess. It was more like seeing the imagery that you imagine when reading a book. I knew it was a "daydream", but I didn't really try to do anything with it. There were three people around me, apparently planning a heist. Two of them started to fight, and I reached out to grab their fist. Anyways, not being fully asleep, I did it in real life and almost fell out of my desk. My real question here is... if I had the time to follow through with it, could it have turned into a VILD?

I'd say a tentative yes. The lack of body paralysis appears to be a slight problem but I would think it is in part due to the fact that you weren't sleeping in your bed.

You were obviously engaging in the dream, though. It seemed pretty solid, too from what I can gather from your description. I would not have been surprised at all if you had told me that it ended up becoming a lucid dream.

Sounds like you could have. I've had this happen before. My two hypotheses are that you are either experiencing strong hypnagogics and just reacting to them, which causes your body to move, or that you have lightly entered an NREM dream but moved so aggressively so quickly into it that your non-paralyzed (remember, REM atonia only occurs during REM sleep) body reacted.

At least you didn't give yourself a welt
