semi-lucid, perhaps?

I've been working on lucid dreaming for the past 3 weeks or so, and last night my dream was either semi-lucid, or just a regular dream that was very, very affected by all my research on LD.
Here's the dream part in question:
First, I'm in my apartment, and a book that I recently ordered is finally delivered to me. I open the package and tell all my friends that are over about LD and how interested I am in the subject. (at this point my recall is a bit fuzzy, and the next clear memory is me outside on a hill.) I start trying to fly (which I've done several times in non-lucid dreams before and always encounter this same problem). I leap into the air and very quickly soar upwards to just about tree-level. Once I reach a certain altitude, I zoom forward for some distance. I never have any control of the flight, however, it just kind of happens without any effort on my part. Once I realize that I'm not the one in control, I instantly zoom back to my starting point on the ground. (It almost feels like a vortex just sucks me back there - I don't conciously fly there - as soon as i realize my lack of control, I get sucked backwards to the ground.) After a few tries this way, I remember reading online that a way to slow down and control dream flight is to fly with your chest leading the way and your arms and legs trailing behind you. I tried it and it did work better. The flight was very short, and after that my dream was totally non-lucid, for certain.
The thing is, it was never like I conciously thought "Oh, look I'm dreaming!" Even though I did successfully employ dream tips that I read about during waking life, it wasn't as if I recognized I was dreaming and then decided how best to go about flight. It was more like a passing thought in my dream mind that just happened to involve techniques that my waking mind knew about.
My question is, was that semi-lucidity? I'm not quite sure. I woke up from the dream very excited that I had improved dream flight, even if I wasn't fully aware it was a dream, so I feel like I have made a bit of progress regardless. Any input would be appreciated!
