Thread: Can you feel in dreams?

I can feel pain in my dreams and everyhitng else. Its been talked about a lot on this forum. Really vivid dreams feel jsut like real life, excpet probably more magical when you become lucid and exert your control.

Its part of dreaming. You will feel pain, but to an extent i suppose. I remember getting bee stings and it did hurt. I dont think you'll find anyone here who doesnt feel pain.

Yea I feel, especially since my last 5 LDs have been WILDs, I understand when you guys say WILDs are better, they seem to be clearer and I have more control and I can feel when I am walking (I am usually flying though )

Yeah, I can feel pain pysically and emotionally.

I think most everyone feels in their dreams. Actually I doubt anyone doesn't.

Well in your dreams doesn't your body think it's true so it responds as if it was really true, with pain and pleasure or whatnot.

i too can feel pain and texture in dreams, sometimes it can be really unpleasant... other times the feelings are great.

Examples like this help explain a certain point - there are no externally received tactiles sensations into the brain during periods of sleep.

It is too often confused that the pain within dreams are real and that you are actually being hurt, however, the somatosensory cortex and prostaglandins are inhibited during rest as their neurotransmitter receptors are not firing during REM period. This means that the pain you feel in dreams is just as real as that "Ow!" feeling you think when you see the men being kicked in the gonads - it is simply imagining the pain. Another good example is the imagined pain you feel when you see operations on the television upon the eyes or brain, etc.

Too often people confuse that the pain within dreams is real and will transfer over to the wake-life when it is simply cognitive "pain" and lingering sensations from the dream world that would make one believe that the pain has been transfered: "I woke up feeling the knife still impaled into my stomach.. " Which proves itself that it is imagined pain, as there are no actual markings. For the phenomena of waking with actual markings from pain induced incidents........... this is not a proven event through the many years of dream study, yet.. it is considered a super-natural event - it is just as real as Freddy slashing people within their dreams and having those marks come up in real life. (The whole concept of Freddies powers is that he can make dream pain real as well..)

With all this said, you of course still dream tactile sensations because it is part of everyday perception.

One time I was in a kind of middevel(very bad spelling) battle and someone threw a small ax in my back (I kicked his ass for that) and I felt the pain but it wasn't that bad of a pain. I thought it was kind of cool too.

By the way, in the next part of the dream, I was talking to my mom and sister about the dream and also had the wounds from the dream. Moment of stupidity. .
