I have dreams where I'm being chased fairly regularly, but I never have fear associated with it. More like an annoyance of "I can't get away from this person/animal/thing, what a bother".
The last serious nightmare I had was at least 5 years ago, being hunted by countless spiders the size of volkswagens. I woke up 'running', while screaming. Pretty intense. And I'm not afraid of normal sized spiders *shrug*.
Lol, I haven't had any nightmares since I was like, 10.
I do have scary dreams, but they're not really nightmares because I can always do something about it, even in non-lucids.
Without lucidity, I would have many more nightmares than I do. I had my last nightmare a few months ago. An old man got squashed by a train. It went from a normal lucid dream to a nightmare in a second. Unpleasant.
A slight nightmare I had was three nights ago when I was acting extremely violent to a dc. This guy was mouthing off to me and I felt in pretty foul dream mood I wanted his blood, I kept smashing him in the face, pummelling his ribs, anywhere I could hit, I just wanted to hurt him. it was awful and I couldn't stop. and his eyes were like "why are you doing this?". and it just went on...and on, by the time I stopped I was in shock.
Another one just the other night back was when I was being watched, in a small dank, dark room, clammy like, A hulking Regenerator (Resident Evil4) stood watching me, was it even looking in my direction? I don't think it even had eyes but, damn I'm near looking behind me as I write this. (Makes a sign to ward off bad dreams). A reoccuring nightmare I shudder to think of.
Of course those chasing dreams as just about everyone has, they just irritate me, why can't I remember a dream a bit more...interesting? Waste of recall to be honest. Prefer these though to the direct above.

I had one dream a while ago where I was being chased by someone and it was a little frightening. I woke up and I was trying to figure out how to hide when I realized I had been dreaming. I guess this counts. Besides this I hadn't had a nightmare in a few years. When I was little I guess I thought my nightmares were real, because I was always really afraid of certain places because I had nightmares about them.
Last nightmare I had was...last Thursday? Friday?
I usually don't get too many nightmares, and very rarely are they disturbing enough to wake me up.
In the dream, I was standing in front of a city bus watching zombies eat the passengers - and each other. Eventually they saw me, though, and came out to eat me. It was kinda gruesome.
I stopped having nightmares when I was about 8 years old.
Exactly, It's common knowledge that some people who are naturally able to influence their dreams will have less nightmares. I havn't really had them that much until last week, normally when bad things happen in my dream, even if I'm not lucid, I can stop them from happening  That's normally the point when I realise I'm dreaming :D
Thanks =]
Jim.
*cry* i wish i could stop nightmares...my last one was the twenty first(a week ago).Even though i am lucid in most of my nightmares i have absolutely no control, and even though i know i am dreaming they still scare the shit out of me.:(
I rarely have any nightmares.
I havn't recalled a nightmare ever since i have kept a dream journal or started lucid dreaming --(i started L.Ding on sep-16-07)--
I had my last nightmare ages ago... I was trapped in my own basement by the KKK for some reason and they were about to preform some experiment/torture me. When they looked away I grabbed a scaple (don't ask) and stabbed one of them. Then I ran through the house to try and get to safety. They other KKK guy chased me and at some point became a troll... I became lucid when I was asking my parents for help and realised that "they never help in drea- wait, I'm dreaming!". The troll caught up with me just as I connjuured up a staff and I sent some sort of spell at him, making him slam into the wall and explode. :D One of my best lucids, actually.
I can't even remember my last nightmare. The last one I can remember turned into lucid automaticallly and I woke myself up from it, from random dream fear and lack of confidence that I would be able to stop my nightmare.
I'm new here, and this happens to be one of the reasons I joined. I have been having nightmares (not more than the usual person has) since I was extremely young and they were always scary (I guess thats the point) but last month I had nightmares for 1.5 weeks straight, completely unrelenting.
In each one, there was some variation of the theme; there was a single object that I used daily (i.e. my cell phone or computer) that seemed to be replaced with a completely identical replica, and in each one, I was warned by the same old man not to touch it. No idea why, he always went away before I asked, but as soon as I got close to the object, I started sweating and bleeding, and somehow, I felt immense pain while dreaming. When I woke up, my eyes were bloodshot every morning, and on the last day, after an incredibly terrible one, I woke up with my knife (about a foot long open, very sharp. I use it to cut twine and it will slide through hardwood like butter) in my hand, open.
After each dream, I was so incredibly distressed that I couldn't move because I was paralyzed in fear. No, it was deeper than fear. It was like total and absolute horror. Has anyone else experienced this? (I spoke to a doctor just because I wanted to know what he would say. He told me everything I already knew.)
:( Check your environment when you're going to sleep.
I've heard that computers/TVs on whilst sleeping can disturb you.
Check your diet, avoid fruit/acidic substances before bed.
Are you on any medication? A huge influence on what you dream.
Has anything happened recently in your actual waking life? Maybe something distressing or highly unusual and disturbing?
Check for irritations in your sleep and bad habits you might do.
E.g, irritating rashes, teeth grinding.
Are you optimistic/pessimistic?
How much sleep do you get?
You can have recurring nightmares influenced by hundreds of different factors, quite often, it's normally a variable in which you can simply cut out your life, as opposed to a psychological problem.
Jim.
Well that's the weird part. I checked everything I did for the last half of that week and a half, and nothing was out of the ordinary. I am on no medication, and for the most part, I'm an average person. No diet problems, no medical conditions, and I normally turn off the computer before I go to bed. I think it was just a freak accident, but I was wondering if anyone else experienced that so we could swap notes. Thank you for the help, though. Anyway, it made great material for a book I'm writing.
uh...i just seem to have them more often than other people and i used to have night terrors when i was little
I have natural SP every few months which leads directly into lucid nightmares. The last one I had is what inspired me to join DV. I don't recall ever having a non-lucid nightmare.
The SP is frightening and I have hallucinations, but I try to ignore everything because I'm tired and want to get to sleep. When I start dreaming, everything is dark and I'm still super scared, just waiting for something to attack me. Usually I end up chickening out and wake myself up.
But I haven't had this happen since I started practicing dream control so maybe things will be different the next time.
I had my first nightmare in about two+ years just a few days ago.
It was a false awakening, and I was sitting at my desk. My room was really dark and there was a black spot on the right side of my vision, which I attributed to my right eye not working anymore. I decided that that must have happened because I'd been worrying about dreaming and trying to lucid dream so much, so I decided to relax and stop worrying about LDing for a while (god dammit ). I got pretty creeped out by sitting there in the dark, since in RL I never have all the lights off and I always imagine creepy things on my floor at night, like Zelda from Pet Sematary. So I decided I needed to get to the light switch, which is across the room. The room was much longer than it actually is, and I decided to run to get the light in case anything scary showed up. Of course halfway across the room some spooky ghost shows up, and I was terrified but I knew the only way to make it go away was to run right through it and get to the light switch. I pushed my way through the ghost and woke up when I reached the far wall.
I was actually more afraid, once I woke up and remembered the dream and was lying in my bed in the semi-dark, than I had been during the nightmare. I think what's even scarier is that I didn't realize it was a dream! But besides this, I've had good dreams for a few years.
Oh and I had a dream about a zombie apocalypse last night, but since zombies are awesome I didn't really consider it a nightmare.
I used to have nightmares about once a month when I was a kid. Ever since I can remember I've been fascinated with the dream world. I haven't had a true nightmare ever since I was 12. I still have dreams that could be classified as nightmares, but as I got older and especially since I found out about lucid dreaming, I seem to be able to passively analyze my dreams. The "nightmares" I have about once every 6 months hardly effect me at all. I just wake up, and think, "That was an interesting dream..." and then I go back to sleep. I actually like these types of dreams as they seem to be more vivid.
I had a series of 3 nightmares a few days ago, something with a hauted house, some monsters and a rude guy attacking me (I smashed his head into a wall to get rid of him).
I easily get nightmares when it's hot, but since they are some of the most interesting dreams I have I don't try to stop them, though some lucidity would be nice. I really want to be able to summon a chainsaw the next time I'm being chased by zombies :D
I also dreamed that I was a giant zombie myself a couple of weeks ago. Man, that was awesome!
I thrive off of nightmares, they tend to be some of my most vivid dreams.
