what is a "natural lucid dreamer"

i have heard this term mentioned in many threads but it often has different interpretations. i have heard it is someone who just has had a lucid dream before knowing what it was/trying to do it. i have heard it is someone who rarely has NON-lucid dreams. i have heard it is someone who just has lucid dreams come very easily. this seems like a stupid question but can anyone clarify for me?

The most common interpretation is just someone that has experience with lucid dreaming, without having heard about it, or the techniques to obtain it, from an outside source.

I would probably define a "natural" as someone who needs very little effort or intention to obtain lucidity, it just happens for them spontaneously. Not like for the rest of us chumps who have to work our nads off to achieve even the most remote success. Of course it's very subjective, every different individual has a different struggle, some really hard (like mine) & others seem to get it a lot easier. So I guess the term natural can have a varied meaning, but basically it boils down to "easier than for the rest of us". IMHO.

Everyone used to be a natural lucid dreamer when we were kids. All my friends could choose and control their dreams themselves when they were kids. It's a natural skill everyone posses from birth. We just forgot how to use it.

Yeah, it's a pretty gray area, because I do agree Phydeaux, as well.^

I only disagree with you because he said "natural lucid dreamer" which if you dissect the phrase, means someone who naturally has lucid dreams. So if you were saying that someone who has frequent lucid dreams, or that they come easy, I would say a "naturally proficient lucid dreamer" or something like that. Just saying someone is a natural lucid dreamer, doesn't indicate whether it comes easy to them or not, but that it naturally occurred.

Also, I don't think that it boils down to "Easier than the rest of us." I am sure there are people here who are not naturals, but have better recall, better control, and more lucids than some naturals. I know my recall is pretty bad, and I rarely have lucids when I try, and my control isn't too good either.
But I had a lucid dream when I was in 3rd grade, so I consider myself a natural since it just happened randomly without know of it or trying.

I wish we could all agree on a single meaning, because I get confused when people mention naturals, as in one of your threads Phydeaux_3. I thought you meant someone who had a lucid dream without knowing about them, not someone proficient at them. But I hope this post lets you know why I misinterpreted that. But in my opinion, the words "natural lucid dreamer" are different than someone who is naturally proficient at lucid dreaming. The words are close, but I don't think they have the same meaning.

personally i saw it as someone who had a lucid dream without trying to, but now i don't really know. i think we should have a giant DV meeting to define the word/phrase.

I would class myself as a natural with out even looking at any of the reply posts (even though i should

      My Reasons are:
I don't have to try and get lucid all my dreams are lucid
I have always remembered all of my dreams being lucid
No matter what i take(drugs, beer whatever) I can get lucid

Don't no if that's any help to you at all but that's how i have always thought of it

I consider a natural to be someone who has always lucid dreamed and has to put little effort, if any, into becoming lucid.

Your friends must have been talented. When I had my first lucid and told my friends in elementary school about it they had no idea what I was talking about.

Interesting. I always thought a "natural" was someone who could induce lucid dreams at will. I guess I was a little off.

I've always had DILD's. Many of them, but not until I stumbled across DV did I realize one could WILD. Some with great difficulty, some with ease. I thought the "naturals" were the ones who could do it with ease. I'm probably not making any sense, but anyway...

That's interesting, but I don't smoke and never have so I don't have much knowledge on cigs.

I/m a natural, and most children are. Highly imaginative people tend to be.

Define it as one who needs very little effort to achieve dream lucidity soberly.

All natural organic people who take of niacin & B6 are not, but helps there dream recall

Lol, that's a nice way to think of it. Best impressive way to be proud of is without obvious aids. And no one wants to catch dream aids.

Oh and I love that signature!

I've always had lucid dreams but not frequently or with lots of control. When i found DV i realized i'd begun to WiLD the year before which was weird, but I still dont have great frequency or amazing control, but i dont even keep a dream journal, I just remember them in my head.

I believe I used to have "natural" LDs as a kid...but I seemed to have lost this ability due to the stress that came into my life soon after that period of time. I'm not sure if defining a natural lucid dreamer is as much about how often they LD without effort as it is how in tune they are with their dreamstate. Perhaps they are more aware of their surroundings and have more intuitive capabilities compared to most us, which allows them to recall certain feelings they experience in dreams, hence making them lucid without effort.
