LD personal o3: Reality checks wont work effectively if you are not in altered state of mind

Quantity of reality checks is one of the way people choose to do, when they are attempting DILDs. But... Take a look at LaBerge's MILD technique. It uses the advantage of special state of mind just before falling asleep. Its the state of mind, where Waking awareness is transforming into Dream awareness.

Lets just extract this one idea and reformulate:

Lets say:

1. I move into special state of mind.
2. Do some programming {and probably anchor this state}
3. Leave special state of mind.

This programming should be much more effective than just doing reality checks, when the mind is fully conscious and the dream memmory is unaccessible.

If we found and especially anchor the state of mind during some kind of relaxative meditation, we would be able to perform reality checks more effectively. {and hopefully less often with higher success rate}

LEt me use some metaphor:
You need to deliver a message from waking world into dream world.
Dream world and Waking worlds are two sides of a river. This river is like a borderline between them. We have few chances how change, what happens on the other side.

1. Build a bridge over the river, move to the other side, and do what you need to. { easier, but needs some effort, wery effective}
2. Throw stones from one coast of the river to the other and so delivering messages to the other side. {easiest, yet unpredictable}
3. Throw so many stones, that you build a dam, limiting water to move trough the river. This way, the worlds blend together. And actually what will happen with accumulated water? {hard to do, and the results may be unexpectable}

Guess what is reality checking while fully aware?
Guess what is reality checking in altered state of mind?

You probably understand whats going on. If I were you... Why should I do many many reality checks, if i am not sure, how they are delivered on the other side? Why should i be obsessed with uneffective means of communication delivery?

Just think about this a little. Maybe we should find a way, how to build a solid bridge between the worlds.

adraw - Great question and insights. I wish I knew the answers. I am learning and experimenting with this myself. It seems difficult to build that bridge between waking thoughts and dream thoughts in a reliable way. Some people seem to be able to do this very naturally, for others or most (like me) it does not appear to be as natural, and takes much work. I'm often so clueless while dreaming. It seems there is no reliable way for everyone, we all have our own approach that works best.

For the last few days, I have been experimenting with a new approach: I have been working very hard on *constantly* repeating to myself my acknowledgment that I am always AWARE, and my intention that I will recognize my awareness while dreaming. Just last night, I had a dream that I was driving down a highway. While driving, I repeatedly passed road signs that read, "Be Aware." I took these signs to mean "Be aware/safe while driving." It never occurred to me where these messages actually came from, and what they really meant! Hence, no lucidity. Go figure.

I'm going to keep at it for a while longer, I will let you and everyone know if this approach ever results in lots of lucid dreams. I know we'd all like to know the answer to your question!
