      problems with doing WILD

      Hi everyone,

I've been trying to perform WILD for the last week and they have been very frustrating. I've read most postings on WILD and it has helped some of the issues like swallowing, heartbeats and itches.
However, the last one is something I can't seem to get around. And that is breathing.

I use the traditional method of counting until SP is supposed to come, and almost invariably, within 30 minutes or so, I feel the effects of itchiness, twitching, and the need to swallow. I have been able to get around these obstacles by concentrating on counting. However, at some point when I get very close and experience heaviness of body, ringing tone in my ears and strange sounds, I automatically and explosively inhale which absolutely shatters the vibrations, noise and anything else close to sounding like SP. I've tried to control breathing until it is quiet and slow then concentrate on counting, but for whatever reason, my body has a tough time with knowing when to breath on its own without suddenly going without breath for a bit then my body forces inhalation which is very disturbing. Anyone else had breathing difficulties which seems to ruin the WILD?

I think I know what you're talking about and this is just one of those things that takes practice IMO.

Your body DOES know when to keep breathing. However, when the sensations of nearing SP start, you could just become breathless from the excitement of it all Each attempt you try at a WILD, you'll get better and better at staying calm during this period and you won't have this problem anymore.

I didn't have the breathing problem when I first started, but I did get really hard rapid heartbeats which, I'm assuming, was caused by the same reason.

Also, I would suggest not paying so much attention to your breathing, swallowing etc. Just try to relax

PRetty well stated. I would add one question to all what was said.

Does it have some reason, why you breath in? Becouse lots of my attempts ended, becouse i felt like i would die, if i didnt? Is it also your case?

hmmm... that really makes a lot of sense. Now that I think about it... I could be holding my breath from the unnatural sensations... thank you...

adraw, were you addressing the question to me? If it was to me, I didn't even think about breathing. What happened was that I seemed to run out of air and took a short explosive breath in without consciously controlling it. That action would drive away all the other sensations

Yeah. i was addressing the question to you. {sorry bad quote usage}. Maybe this could be helpful. After the interruption, you have pretty good chance to enter the state you were before in pretty a short time. So anything what happens, shouldnt interrupt you for a long time. You can get even deeper.

If i might suggest, you should take a little pause from your attempts. Otherwise you could create a conscious block for further attempts. dont think about it for a while. Relax.

You're right abou the pre-SP sensations (vibrations, ears ringing) being easy to get to. But getting past that is the kicker. attempting WILD is pretty exhausting. One night, I spent the whole night trying to WILD. Every time I fail, I re-attempted WILD. With repeated failures. 6 hours later, I got up exhausted and with a huge headache.

Maybe, I need to take a break from WILD until I can successfully lucid dream regularly?
