how exactly do you dream spin?

I'm not sure exactly how dream spinning is supposed to work. I have questions like, how many times are you supposed to spin; how fast; do you have to keep one foot on the ground while you spin; etc. I've always heard the term dream spinning but I've never really gotten much meaning out of it. does it really matter how you do it? Because some people are successful and some arent, and I'm wondering if it is because they are doing it wrong or just because some are just naturally better at that sort of stuff than others.

I think you might be over thinking it. When I spin, I just think I should spin and do it. It is not like real life, where I am conscious of how exactly my legs are moving. The way I spin, the physics of it don't really make sense in real life either I guess, I kind of just will myself to spin and spin like a top.
To answer some other questions I spin around about as quickly as I could in real life, and spin until everything becomes clearer around me (usually a few rotations and it's good). This has always worked consistently for me, but I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone.

What MrBeelzy said, I suppose. Just try out what works for you. It doesn't work for everyone, in fact, dream spinning makes me wake up.

lagunagirl, the one time I tried spinning my lucid ended.

I did find the following threads on spinning which contain various ideas on spinning:

Dream spinning only worked for me once... =(
There are other ways to increase clarity or prolong an LD though. Try them out and see which one works the best for you.

The real purpose of spinning is so that you put your focus back in the dream, instead of starting to focus on waking life. The speed and amount is somewhat trivial, I guess whatever works best.

Stephen LaBerge did a study about spinning and other techniques. He concluded that spinning will prolong dream length the most, followed by rubbing your hands, and the constant was just not doing anything.

Speaking of constant Lost totally pwned last night.

Anyway, what works to get your attention back in the dream is what will work good, so it'll take some experimenting.

I tried spinning once and it didn't work,... it was funny though!!! LOL

The way I did it was, I practiced spinning while I was awake, with my arms stretched out and palms up... Hee hee hee

In the dream, it was at a family gathering of my inlaws. We were all enjoying a buffet of Mexican food and some Mexican music for atmosphere, LOL...

... So, right about then I went lucid, and tried my spinning technique! LOL

One of my nieces saw what I was doing and said, Hey everybody look at Theo "Who I Am"! Let's all do what He's doing!... So, all my relatives started spinning and looking at me and smiling as they twirled around. LOL

And then she said, Hey Theo "Who I Am",... what are we doing?

... and I said, "We're dreaming"! ... and they all cracked up laughing ,… and I woke up. LOL

yeah, it's definitly not like physically spinning. when i do it, i usually don't see what is around me, and its like my mind is spinning.....not my body

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream
merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.
