Angry What do your friends/family think of you intrest is Dreams/Lucidity?

When you talk about this or try to share this with people what is there usual reaction.

Most people i have told have just kind of looked at me funny and nodded. Others kinda just shrug or laugh it off.
So pardon me while I burst

My family (at least my mother) is as uninterested as uninterested can be, my mother even tells me to not talk about it. My friends who know about my lucid dreaming are interested, some even have them now and then.

Well you should tell her she should do something productive, LD'ing is alot more productive then an ignorant person who is not open to explore their own conciousness, exploring yourself is the epitome of productive use of time

how are you wasting your time according to her?

your already sleeping, why not take advantage and LD? tell her that and then we'll see who's the productive one
I would rather die on my feet then to live on my knees.

I agree with your mom. You shouldn't be wasting your time on lucid dreaming, you should make your homework in your sleep instead!

I have talked to my sister about it, she thinks it is cool. But I found out from talking to her she is a natural LDer. So sometimes I will call her up just to talk about it with her.

I talked to my mom about it the other day. She has a pretty open mind, but she didn't sound like she understood me, but she listens to me so I like that.

I have also told my husband about me doing the LD thing. He is pretty cool with it. Some times I feel weird talking about it with him and have told him such. But he just told me that he thinks it is cool I am trying to LD and that I should not expect him to understand it, but he would like me to continue to talk to him about it.

My best friend that I have told and talk about it with him sometimes thinks that it is awesome I am trying to LD. He thinks this because he likes the idea of me trying to harness my dreams to help me better understand my self which is a huge goal of mine with LDing. When I tell him some of the things I have experienced with LD he always challenges me to look beyond the top layer of the dream. It is quit fun talking with him some times about LDing.

All in all everyone I have told seems to be ok with it. But I do try to only tell people who I know has an open mind and will except something that is out of the norm of everyday chatter and what not.

I only share when asked, so the inherent attitude of someone interested is quite positive, naturally.

I have nearly stopped telling people that I experiment with lucid dreaming. most people look at me like im insane when I begin to explain it. Aside from the majority, there are a select few people I know who are extremely interested in it.

People I tell are pretty cool about it.

lol I was worried when my Mom found a note i had written to myself for WBTB. I put it by my alarm, it said "don't go back to sleep lucid dream!" I have little will power when it comes to waking up Anyway she's like "what does this mean?" and I explained WBTB to her and all she said was "well, i hope you're not doing that on school nights?"

Only my Mum and two friends know I'm interesting in LDing.

My Mum reacted like she couldn't comprehend why anyone would want to do it, even after I told her its like being god of your own world and being able to do anything you want. She didn't dismiss it or think its dangerous or anything though so thats alright.
Personally I can't comprehend how someone would not want to do it...

One of my friends thinks its cool but he doesn't really say anything about it or try it himself, he just comments on how cool my dreams are when I tell him about them.

The other friend I told was similar to my Mums reaction, except she actually said its "stupid". So I told her she was stupid

The two friends that know that I LD for a hobby or whatnot have both different opinions. one thinks that its impossible which made me really pissed because he kept say "oh yeah, thats all fake" and my other friend whom i was trying to teach and train him to become lucid was pessimistic about it. he was like "oh, Greg, i suck at dreaming, ill never be as good as you." which made me sad in a way. my parents think its pretty OK and have neutral feelings about it.

I told my mom about lucid dreaming and she was like: " Be careful with lucid dreaming"... What can happen to me in a dream ?
And for my friend he was neutral at first he said that it was impossible blablabla..xD
But after he told me that he was wrong and maybe it could be possible but i don't know if he still think that. lol

It really amazes me how many people think lucid dreaming is dangerous or otherwise bad for you.

Damn! She got us all figured out! haha.

All of my immediate family doesn't really care for it. They just kinda nod and agree and give me this "good for you!" type of comment. I have a few friends around here that have had lucid dreams though, but they don't really pursue it by keeping dream journals and trying out different techniques.

My family thinks its silly, and they think it's controlling my mind. They've almost banned me from the computer because of it.

But I can't blame them. My math grades aren't so hot =P

Iv'e told 3 friend's and my sister.. all of my friend's seemed to think it was the most amazing thing they've ever heard!!, they wanted to get to straight away!. so far they say they have had 3 to 4... wich is amazing since i told them last week, considering the fact they may be lieng but still. They seem eager to LD so that's ok with me..

On the other hand, my sister thought i was some sort of sphycotik freak!!. and just scowled at me as i tried to explain... and i told one other person, who just said.. John!, evrythings wierd with you!.. you dont live in the real world, come back down to earth.. i mean, ouija baords. telekenisis, and now this... Get a grip... so i told her that, im bored.. yes, bored of waking life.. thats why i long to search for amazing thing's that alow me to do incredible stuff that not evryone can do.. i dont want to be normal. i want to be diffrent. But in a good way, thing's that can defy the laws of the universe! that could impress some people.. and lucid dreaming is the best thing iv'e ever come accross.. im not wasting my time, infact.. your wasting your time.. the 8 hours were you sleep your doing nothing.. so why not spend that wasted time acheaving something.. discovering something aboutyourself. something new and exiting!!... So i ask!! what the hell is wrong with that!!!!...

she just laughed and walked away...

My parents are mildly interested. My dad actually knew about lucid dreaming before I did and my mom always thought my dreams were interesting, but I think she has a hard time relating (I used to read tons of fantasy and sci-fi, and she preffers biographies). She wasn't all that interested in dreaming before, although after bugging her constantly to remember if she "had any dreams last night" (for the past several weeks), her recall is getting pretty good I'm even starting to suspect that she has some real potential for lucid dreaming based on some dreams she told me from when she was younger...

I've also told a couple friends about it. The first one had an LD that same night (!!!) using the finger counting reality check I told her about. Lol, she was my roomate for a trip and I had wondered why she was laughing in her sleep. The other friend had actually heard about lucid dreaming before and seemed to find it interesting. I've talked to just about all my friends about regular dreams. I'm actually surprised at how ready people are to swap dream stories. I suspect most of my friends would be interested, but probably not to the extent of trying to LD.

I told another friend today after waking up from a really good DILD.

He was interested but didn't want to try it. He asked if it was dangerous and I explained it wasn't and its just like a normal dream. Then he said he wouldn't try because it would be scary. I tried convincing him it isn't and that its one of the best feelings in the world but I don't think he believed me. He then said he doesn't want to hit his girlfriend while he's sleeping... I explained you don't move when your dreaming just like normal dreams, but he's afraid he'll wake up and kick her, like when you wake up from a nightmare. He still thinks it would be scary.

I gave him this site and told him to check it out and read some tutorials or something, if he doesn't want to do it then, at least he'll be well informed of the facts.

My parents think it's very cool, my brother gets angry when I talk about it. (He can't remember many dreams, so he is jeleous.) A few of my friends think it's cool, others think its strange. I think that this is pretty typical.

Yeah.. It also amazes me how people could be disinterested. Who wouldn't want a new experience such as lucid dreaming? I talk to my friends about it sometimes, but sometimes it hardly seems like they're listening. If one of my friends were talking to me about such an insane experience as a lucid dream, I'd listen very enthusiastically. It hardly seems like my friends listen at any other times... We mostly joke around with each other, but never seem to have real conversations.
Anyways, people are generally slighty interested, interested enough to have a conversation, or just won't listen, for me.
