      Was this a lucid dream?

I woke up at about 7AM this morning. I remembered a dream, but that's besides the point. I fell back asleep. I had another dream. The dream went on through to some wacky things that don't matter. Anyway, at one point, there were babies all over my room. They were trying to bother me as much as they could. My mom said from somewhere randomly "Don't babies also poop?". The lights turned off (yes, they did, despite light levels not changing in dreams). I couldn't see them. I hurried and turned on the light. Nothing happened. I remembered "Light levels rarely change in dreams" from this website somewhere. Instantly I thought "I must be dreaming" and woke up. Technically I was only lucid for a millisecond, if anything. The instant I thought it I woke up. Was that considered a lucid dream?

Sure, it was lucid. You realized you were dreaming. But in my opinion, due to the duration, the quality was lacking. Next time, calm yourself before the excitement jolts you awake. Try spinning, rubbing your hands, and feeling things.

Of course, you could've been at the end of the dream. For me, at least, dreams get darker in lighting towards the end. In that case, it's only a matter of time before you become lucid earlier in a dream!

This dream, as your first lucid dream, may feel discouraging. But that is definetely not the extent of a lucid dream! Keep up the good work (dream recall, questioning reality, etc.) and I'm certain that you'll have a longer, more vivid lucid dream very soon!

I would've done the hand rubbing and spinning, but literally, I woke up the instant I thought of it. Also, it was kind of strange, as I was waking up, there were bright flashes up light that happened in less then a second. Ever heard of that?

Hypnopompic imagery (hypnogogic imagery's twin brother). Just as when you go to bed you may see flickers of color, faces, or sounds, the same thing happens as you exit the dream state.

Did you stay still after the dream ended? Sometimes, staying still and asserting that you are still in the dream will suck you back in (DEILD). Of course, sometimes you are truly finished with REM dreaming.

I was pretty still, but I had already fallen back to sleep once, so I knew I couldn't again. I'll try that next time though.

Well, it was a LD. But, you couldn't control it because you woke up. Next time when a thing like that happens, try not to get too excited. Or just try to do something. Fly, walk through walls, or anything even more simple. Just to keep your dream going on.
