Thread: DILD and Reality Checks

1. I see everywhere the acronym DILD. What does it mean? How is it done? I don't see it on the tutorial sheet. Also, it seems that to many people this is how they accomplish most of their LD's.

2. Currently I am saying, "Am I Dreaming?" at least 21 times per day. However, to test it, I usually hold my nose and see if I can breath. Should I say "Am I Dreaming?" out loud or in my head? Does it matter? Should I try to do something other than see if I can breath? Sometimes, I'll see if the letters in a book change or if I look differently in a mirror.

Last night, I asked myself in my dream if I was dreaming and I immediately thought, "I'm dreaming!" but then my dream just continued on like a non lucid dream so,

Did I

1. Become slightly lucid and then get distracted and just continue my dream

or

2. Never became lucid and just dreamed that I was dreaming but never consciously became aware to the fact that I was indeed dreaming?

A DILD is a Dream-Induced Lucid Dream. It's when you fall asleep and dream and then become lucid once you realize you're dreaming.

You can say "Am i dreaming?" inside your head; it'll have the same effect. I don't do the breathing, although that's a really good one. My technique is to rub my hands, look at my fingers (to see if i have only 5 and it's a stable number) and then try to poke my finger into my palm (if it goes through, i'm dreaming!). If there's a clock available, i check the time, look away, and check again. If the time's changed, i'm dreaming.

The ones you described you do are just fine.

And i'm sorry, i don't know the answer to the last questions!

How often does everyone else do reality checks during the day?

I've done mine for the past two days and it seems strange. I feel like I'm Obsessive Compulsive. I do it at school, at home, and at work. I do mine as much as possible so that it will work.

Is it a big part of your life?

Well, i would be looking at maybe once every hour that you're awake. But if you become really serious and are like, "Damn, tonight I'm going to get lucid or die." then you can push it down to like once every 15 minutes. Anyways what I'm trying to say is that the more you do them, the more likely you'll have a lucid.
