      WILD and Sleep Paralysis?

My friend had been doing research on lucid dreaming and was telling me about it and I found it really interesting and have been not very religiously doing the rc's and other things, but upon having had my first LD experience last night, want to get more into it. I want to attempt a WILD but I have heard that this particular method can cause Sleep Paralysis, something i never want to experience if I can avoid it. Is this true?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your LD.
Yes, you will experience SP when doing a WILD. If that bothers you though there are lots of other methods of attaining lucidity.
You can find some of them in the tutorials section.

yes you can avoid it by doing WILD via visualization.

Actively involving your mind in a specific visualization can be even more effective than other ways of keeping your conciousness because it provides the mind with ready-made scenery for your dream. As you lie in bed, visualize yourself walking along a path in the location of your choice. It may be a path in a lush forest, a path down a spiral staircase, a long corridor within a large mansion, or any other path that allows you to explore your surroundings as you move deeper and deeper into the setting you have created within your mind. Maintain your conscious awareness as you observe the details of your environment, even as you fall asleep.

the best part is you skip Sleep paralysis, but you should do this during this a brief awakening during the night

DILD's might be more up your alley then. If you want to forego the entire Sleep Paralysis experience. But in order to become proficient in DILD's, RC's must become your best friend.

It's easy to overcome the feeling of sleep paralysis, you just have to slowly test the waters and get used to it. A very reliable way for me to get out of it, if worse should come to worst, is just TILT your head sharply. It works much much better than trying to open your eyelids. I used this technique to wake out of WILD induced sleep paralysis when I was practicing WILDs multiple times per night, and it worked 100% of the time for me.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying it will work 100% for you, but it's worth a shot. WILDs are too great of a reward, don't let SP get in the way of that.
